Rams waived/injured RB Isaiah Pead (torn ACL).

Pead tore his ACL while returning the opening kickoff last weekend against the Packers. If he clears waivers, he'll go to the Rams' injured reserve list. He's obviously out for the season, but the former second-round pick has two years left on his rookie contract. A claiming team would have him for 2015. For Pead's sake, it might be best to get claimed and get a fresh start in a new city.

Jaguars FS Tashaun Gipson (foot) is questionable for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Patriots.

Gipson was back at practice Friday after sitting Wednesday and Thursday. He's going to give it his all to be out there for the biggest game of his career to date. Odds are Gipson will be out there come Sunday afternoon at 3:05 PM ET.

Tom Brady (hand) returned to practice Friday.

This has only been a story because there are four teams left in the playoffs, so we have to talk about something. Everything is magnified this time of year. Brady will be fine for the AFC Championship game against the Jaguars.

Arizona Sports' Mike Jurecki reports ex-Steelers OC Todd Haley is interested in the Cardinals' offensive-coordinator job.

Haley, of course, was the Cardinals' OC in 2007 and 2008 and went to the Super Bowl with Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald before landing the Chiefs' head coach job in 2009. Haley still has a home in the area, but the Cardinals don't currently have a head coach. Some have mentioned Haley as an option for Arizona's head gig, but that looks like a serious long shot. Haley reportedly has a "few options" on the table but is "going to wait for the right opportunity."

Impending free agent Jeremy Hill is fully expected to move on from the Bengals.

Beat writers Jim Owczarski and Paul Dehner put the chances of the Bengals re-signing Hill at one percent. It's a massive long shot. Hill needed ankle surgery in November, ending his season, but he's expected to be fully healthy sometime this month. Hill had a big rookie season and scored 29 touchdowns his first three seasons, but he's averaged just 3.6 YPC his last three seasons, spanning 482 carries. Hill is still just 25 but is just an early-down, goal-line bruiser.

The Cincinnati Enquirer puts the chances the Bengals re-sign impending free agent Tyler Eifert at "10 percent."

Eifert has said all options are on the table, admitting his lengthy injury history will likely cloud some things. He's recovering from a second back surgery in two years and also needed a recent knee scope. Eifert has missed 41-of-80 games in five seasons but was dominant in 2015 when healthy, proving to be a huge red-zone weapon. He's still just 27, but the body is breaking down. Eifert's free-agent case will be interesting to follow. He may have to take a one-year deal.

David Johnson (wrist) is back to 100 percent health.

Johnson is finally healthy after his injury cost him all but one game and 17 touches. It will be an offseason of change for Johnson, who must adjust to a new coach and is headed into the final year of his rookie contract. Although Bruce Arians relies on three-down bellcows to an unusual degree, whomever replaces him will do the same with Johnson. Johnson turned 26 in December.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are open to using the No. 11 overall pick on a quarterback "if he is the best player on their board."

Reporter Adam Beasley dropped the nugget in a Thursday article about Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield posting on social media "#GetMeToMiami." Mayfield was commenting on an Instagram video posted by Kenny Stills. Mayfield seems likely to be a first-round pick, but just where that might be is anybody's guess at this stage of the process.

Tom Brady (hand) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

The Boston Globe reported that Brady had resumed practicing, but the team evidently didn't feel he did enough to earn a "limited" tag. Brady was again held back from the media Thursday after being scheduled to talk, while backup Brian Hoyer was cagey about the starter's status. It remains nearly impossible to believe that Brady will miss Sunday's AFC Championship Game, but his status cannot be taken for granted. We should get something resembling clarity on Friday.

Steelers promoted QBs coach Randy Fichtner to offensive coordinator.

This was the expected move after the Steelers let Todd Haley's contract expire. Haley and Ben Roethlisberger seemed to detest each other, while Ben apparently has a strong relationship with Fichtner. A Steelers assistant since 2007, Fichtner had served as QBs coach since 2010. He knows the offense inside and out. Neither personnel nor scoring points were a problem in 2017. Although Haley remains somewhat underrated as an offensive mind, Roethlisberger and company shouldn't miss a beat under Fichtner.

Devonta Freeman (MCL, PCL) does not require surgery.

Freeman finished the season playing through MCL and PCL sprains. Including the postseason, he averaged just 2.64 yards per carry over his final four games. Freeman should be ready to rock for the offseason program.
Jan 18 - 2:25 PM

Speaking Thursday, Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said his "main focus" this offseason will be extending contract-year QB Matt Ryan.

Going on 33, Ryan followed up his MVP 2016 with a disappointing 20-score campaign but didn't take any physical steps backward. He had the looks of a player who should remain the answer under center for at least 2-3 more seasons. Any extension would have to make Ryan one of the 2-3 highest-paid players in the league.
