Amari Cooper believes "the ball will find" him eventually.

"That’s how I look at it," Cooper said. "Just keep being me, just keep doing me, stay true to who I am and the ball will find me." Despite seeing just two targets against the Ravens, a game where E.J. Manuel barely looked his way, Cooper is staying positive. Getting back Derek Carr should help, and coach Jack Del Rio gave some encouragement by saying Cooper was able to get open several times against Baltimore even if the ball did not come his way. Cooper could find the sledding tough against Casey Hayward this week, but he is going to break out at some point.

Browns coach Hue Jackson said there's "a chance" Josh Gordon will be ready for the team's season opener against the Steelers on September 9.

Chiefs signed CB Orlando Scandrick, formerly of the Redskins, to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Scandrick was let go by Washington last week. He fills a need for the Chiefs, who are looking thin in the secondary following the offseason departures of Marcus Peters (traded to the Rams) and Terrence Mitchell (signed with Cleveland). Steven Nelson's concussion Friday night likely created an even greater sense of urgency. In KC, Scandrick will likely back up Kendall Fuller at slot corner.

Trey Burton caught 4-of-5 targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' third preseason game Saturday night.

Burton got all of his production in barely over a quarter. Built more like a wide receiver than tight end, Burton projects to play a major role in Chicago's revamped passing game, where Mitchell Trubisky excelled targeting the middle of the field as a rookie. Burton will run roughly half of his routes in the slot. He looked like Trubisky's go-to guy in Saturday night's exhibition.

Taywan Taylor caught 4-of-4 targets for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans' second preseason game Saturday night.

Taylor's highlight-reel play was a 47-yard touchdown on a screen pass where he outraced everyone on the field to the house. His second TD came deep in the red zone from three yards out. Taylor has played more first-team reps than any Titans receiver so far in training camp and is a recommended late-round flyer.

Royce Freeman had six carries for 20 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' second preseason game.

Freeman played in a first-team timeshare with Devontae Booker. He outgained Booker and looked to be the preferred red-zone option, converting a goal-line carry for his second touchdown of the preseason. Freeman isn't going to play much on pass downs, but he has workhorse traits. It won't be surprising if the Broncos give Freeman the start in their third preseason game.

Cowboys RG Zack Martin (knee) will have an MRI on Sunday.

Martin limped off after a helmet-to-knee hit in the first half. It's not a good sign he needs an MRI, but Martin was reportedly walking fine on the sidelines. With Travis Frederick sidelined, losing Martin would be another blow to the Cowboys' offensive line.

Bears TE Adam Shaheen was carted off the field with a right ankle injury in Saturday night's preseason game.

Shaheen made a short catch, then drew a helmet to the leg. He came off hobbling and was eventually carted to the locker room. Shaheen has been having a solid camp and preseason after turning in an underrated rookie campaign.

Free agent RB Orleans Darkwa will work out for the Redskins on Sunday.

The Redskins are desperate for running backs with Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall going down last week. Coming off a career 2017, there hasn't been much interest in Darkwa due to May leg surgery but he's fully healthy. He would give Washington a veteran to push Rob Kelley.
Aug 18 - 8:24 PM

Bucs RB Charles Sims exited Saturday's preseason game with a left knee injury and will not return.

He was immediately ruled out, which isn't a good sign. Sims got injured on the game's opening kickoff. Sims is the Bucs' third-down back. If he misses extended time, Peyton Barber could take on a bigger role in the passing game.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy reports Josh Gordon hasn't been cleared to practice.

Gordon is still in Stage 3 of the league's substance abuse program and needs to pass certain conditions before practicing. It's possible not meeting the conditions are why Gordon delayed reporting to training camp. The league "doesn't have a timetable" on Gordon's next step. Gordon can attend meetings and do off-field work, but he's not out of the woods yet.
Aug 18 - 1:16 PM

Josh Gordon has reported to the Browns' training camp.

Gordon is expected to attend practice Sunday after skipping the first three weeks of camp for health reasons. The Browns have supported Gordon throughout the process and are welcoming him back. It's a strange situation that Gordon didn't get help before the preseason, but there's been nothing to suggest he's in trouble with the league. Gordon will be moved slowly but has enough time to be on the field for Week 1. Gordon's return should end Cleveland's pursuit of Dez Bryant.
