Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) has ligament damage and is done for the season.

An MRI confirmed what the Panthers feared on Monday. Samuel needs surgery on his left ankle. It's a big blow for an offense that just traded Kelvin Benjamin, and a crushing one for a rookie who was finally seeing increased snaps and targets. The lost development time is extra bad since Samuel has begun his career as a player who needs his touches manufactured. The 7-3 Panthers will move forward without any real vertical options. Samuel, despite the injury and slow development, is a hold in Dynasty leagues.

Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) has been cleared for contact.

It's a big hurdle for Jeffery after being limited to individual drills the first three weeks. Coach Doug Peterson wouldn't commit to Jeffery playing Sunday, but he's trending in the right direction. Sidelined since February, Jeffery will likely be on a snap count if he plays in Week 4.

Leonard Fournette (hamstring) is practicing Wednesday.

It confrims Fournette didn't have a setback after being a surprise inactive. Coach Doug Marrone has labled Fournette as day to day. The Jaguars didn't want to push Fournette at less than 100 percent last week, but he's on track to return against the Jets.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports "all signs point" to Ryan Fitzpatrick starting Week 4 against Chicago.

This has been expected for awhile. With Tampa coming off a short week, Fitzpatrick is in line to make at least another start. It's his job to lose after three straight 400-plus yard games. The Bucs plan to use their roster exemption on Jameis Winston, so there might not be anything official until later in the week.

Rams coach Sean McVay said Aqib Talib (ankle) will undergo surgery on Thursday.

Talib's timetable is to be determined, as doctors will examine the extent of the ankle injury once inside surgery. The Rams are hopeful that Talib will return in four weeks but that is just an educated guess at the moment. With Talib and possibly Marcus Peters (calf) sidelined, the Rams will lean on Sam Shields, Nickell Robey-Coleman, and Troy Hill. McVay called Peters will be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Vikings.

The Rams have yet to formally rule CB Marcus Peters (calf) out for Week 4.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Peters would miss "2-4 weeks," but that's not looking likely. We ultimately doubt Peters suits up against the Vikings, but the fact that the Rams are not ruling it out on a short week speaks to an injury that was not as serious as it looked. With Aqib Talib (ankle) out indefinitely, the Rams desperately need Peters back as soon as possible.

Dalvin Cook (hamstring) participated in the portion of Vikings practice open to the media on Tuesday.

Cook's own comments have painted a bleak picture for his Thursday availability, but this at least gives him a shot at suiting up against the Rams. It's possible Cook is a game-time decision. Were that to happen and Cook plays, he would be a risky RB2.

Bucs placed SS Chris Conte on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Conte first picked up the injury in Week 2. He apparently aggravated it in Monday night's loss to the Steelers. Conte got his soul owned by a Vance McDonald stiff arm on a long touchdown. It's rather remarkable Lovie Smith's favorite player was still holding down a starting job. The Bucs have close to zero depth in the secondary. Fourth-rounder Jordan Whitehead is the next man up.

Saints placed CB Patrick Robinson on injured reserve with a broken ankle.

Yikes. Robinson signed a four-year, $20 million deal to be the Saints' slot corner in March. He had been playing decent snaps for the Saints' suddenly awful cornerback corps, grading out of the top player in the group on Pro Football Focus. Robinson will be a candidate to return after eight weeks, but it's possible he will need more time to get healthy. 2015 third-round bust P.J. Williams is the next man up.

Panthers acquired OT Marshall Newhouse from the Bills for a conditional 2021 pick.

Bills coach Sean McDermott continues to do business with his old team. Although he's played only 14 snaps this season, Newhouse has managed to struggle. His acquisition speaks to the Panthers' depth and injury issues up front.
Sep 25 - 4:11 PM

Titans signed QB Austin Davis.

The ex-Seahawks backup will serve as a (bad) insurance policy in case Blaine Gabbert (concussion) cannot go behind Marcus Mariota (elbow) against the Eagles.
Sep 25 - 3:18 PM

TitansInsider.com's Terry McCormick reports free agent Matt Moore has turned down a chance to work out for the Titans.

Per McCormick, Moore has also been contacted by the 49ers. His interest level there is unclear. It's unusual for a non-retired free agent to turn down a workout. Perhaps Moore didn't like his odds of being signed or the potential money. Moore would be an upgrade on Blaine Gabbert behind Marcus Mariota.
