Colts activated S Clayton Geathers (neck) from the reserve/PUP list.

LB Josh Perry has been waived in a corresponding roster move. Geathers had been recovering from surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck since last December. He will likely slide in opposite Matthias Farley at safety, though Darius Butler could keep seeing some snaps at the back end.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Rams CB Marcus Peters has been diagnosed with a strained calf and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

Per Rapsheet, Peters is believed to have avoided structural damage. Even though Peters could miss upwards of a month, it's actually good news after it appeared Peters could have injured his Achilles' tendon against the Chargers. With Aqib Talib (ankle) also banged up, the Rams could be extremely short-handed for their short-week matchup with Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen.

Browns coach Hue Jackson named Baker Mayfield the starting quarterback.

"Baker understands there's still a lot of work to do," Jackson said. "But I think he can handle it. He's demonstrated that." He would have been able to handle it Week 1, but better late than never. Mayfield getting the nod is a big upgrade for the entire passing game. Tyrod Taylor (concussion) will serve as the backup once he is healthy.

710 ESPN Seattle's John Clayton reports Rams LT Andrew Whitworth underwent a minor knee surgery.

Whitworth did miss the final three snaps on Sunday, but there was no word of a serious injury after the game. With the Rams playing the Vikings on Thursday night, Whitworth will almost certainly sit out this week if he underwent any kind of procedure. The Rams also lost CBs Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters to injury on Sunday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Richard Sherman will miss a "few weeks" with a calf injury.

Rapoport reports Sherman is dealing with a "mild calf strain." That is good news after he had to be helped into the locker room at halftime on Sunday, but a calf injury is a concern for a player who suffered an Achilles' tear last season. The 49ers' secondary is an injured mess right now.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson expects Darren Sproles (hamstring) to return to practice this week.

The coach originally said he expected Sproles and Jay Ajayi (back) to return this week, but he clarified he just meant practice. Even so, any practice time would be a good sign for Sproles' availability for Week 4.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson expects Jay Ajayi (back) to return to practice this week.

Pederson originally said he expected Ajayi to play this week, but he clarified he was actually talking about practice. Even so, Ajayi will almost certainly return to the field if he is able to get in even a limited practice on Wednesday.
Sep 24 - 12:26 PM

Tyrod Taylor (concussion) did not practice Monday.

Taylor is expected to be cleared before this weekend, but he will not be returning to a starting job. Baker Mayfield is fully expected to be named the starter Monday afternoon.
Sep 24 - 12:13 PM

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Alshon Jeffery (shoulder) has still not been cleared for contact.

Pederson said Jeffery is getting closer, but he obviously needs to be cleared for contact before he can return to the field. After being listed as questionable last week, it would not be a surprise if he gets the green light in the next few days.

Dolphins DE William Hayes suffered a season-ending ACL injury Week 3 against the Raiders.

Coach Adam Gase said Hayes tore his ACL trying to keep his bodyweight from landing on Derek Carr during a second-quarter sack. Hayes has played well this season, so his loss will be felt in what had been a deep defensive line rotation. First-round sophomore Charles Harris should get more snaps moving forward.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Evan Engram is "week to week" with a sprained MCL.

It is ultimately good news after he was quickly ruled out on Sunday, but it is still likely Engram will miss some time. Rhett Ellison caught three passes for 39 yards and a touchdown against the Texans, but he is more of a blocking option. Fantasy players should look elsewhere for a replacement.

Falcons S Ricardo Allen suffered a torn Achilles' Week 3 against the Saints.

It is the second safety the Falcons have lost for the season in the first three games after Keanu Neal suffered an ACL tear in Week 1. Atlanta was already struggling on defense, especially covering opposing running backs out of the backfield, and this injury is not going to help. Jordan Richards played in Allen's spot after he exited, but the Falcons could look to bring someone in. Rumors of an Earl Thomas trade refuse to go away, and he would be a plug-and-play option in former DC Dan Quinn's defense. Eric Reid also remains a free agent.
