ESPN's Michael Rothstein said it would not be a "surprise" if the Lions shopped Ameer Abdullah.

Of Detroit's current running backs, Rothstein believes only LeGarrette Blount's roster spot is safe. Abdullah opened last season as the Lions' lead back but saw his role diminish as the year went on. With the Lions expected to pursue a running back early in next week's draft, Abdullah's days in Detroit could be numbered. The former second-round pick will earn $876,745 in the final year of his rookie contract.

Marlon Mack (shoulder) has been cleared for the start of training camp.

Jul 20 - 2:33 PM

Colts GM Chris Ballard said Andrew Luck (shoulder) will be "good to go" for the start of training camp.

Ballard confirmed Luck will practice with the starters when camp opens next Thursday. Luck will have scheduled off days throughout camp to preserve him for the regular season, but the quarterback will avoid the PUP list and appears to be fully healthy for the first time in nearly two years. Having Luck back at full strength should be a huge boost to a Colts' offense that averaged the second-fewest passing yards in the league last year.

NFL suspended Jets WR ArDarius Stewart two games for violating the league’s PEDs policy.

A 2017 third-rounder out of Alabama, Stewart caught a measly six balls for 82 scoreless yards as a rookie, adding seven rushing attempts for 27 yards. Buried on the depth chart in New York, Stewart was already facing tough odds of cracking the roster behind Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, Quincy Enunwa, Terrelle Pryor, and fellow 2017 draft pick Chad Hansen. Stewart can return Week 3.

Deshaun Watson (knee) expects to be "full go" for Texans training camp next week.

"I feel great," Watson said on NFL Network. "I’m getting ready for next week when we report to The Greenbrier; I’m going to be full-go." Long billed as "ahead of schedule," Watson was spotted without a brace in minicamp. The Texans are not going to take any risks with their franchise player, but it is looking like he will see preseason reps.

In a joint Thursday statement, the NFL and NFLPA said they have come to a "standstill agreement" on the league's national anthem policy, and hope to "(find) a solution to the anthem issue through mutual, good faith commitments, outside of litigation."

"No new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks while these confidential discussions are ongoing," the statement said. The unilateral, team-centric policy the league announced in May has been put on ice. After the disastrous disclosure of the Dolphins' extremely punitive anthem policy on Thursday, the league is in damage control mode. The NFLPA is going along as both sides try to somehow put the issue in the rear-view mirror.

Jets TEs coach Jimmie Johnson says second-year TE Jordan Leggett is over the knee issue that cost him his entire rookie season.

"He doesn’t worry about his knee," Johnson said. "He has those issues behind him now. So now, we can move forward and get back to playing football." Although fourth-rounder Chris Herndon is in the fold, Herndon is coming off a knee injury of his own. Johnson's comments have also made it sound like the Jets will be counting on Herndon more as a blocker in the early going. Leggett is in the lead when it comes to soaking up Austin Seferian-Jenkins' lost targets.

Jets WRs coach Karl Dorrell expects Robby Anderson to "explode and become a more complete player" this season.

"There are some different roles on our team, doing secondary jobs to help other people out and I think that is something he will learn and grow with," Dorrell said. "He’ll be better at that now that he knows the scope of it. I think Robby is really going to explode and become a more complete player because of it." 59 yards shy of 1,000 last season, Anderson escaped a host of off-the-field issues with minimal punishment from the law, but he could still be facing a short league-mandated suspension.

In their new "Proper Anthem Conduct" policy, the Dolphins reserve the right to suspend players who protest on the field up to four games.

Dolphins Kenny Stills and Jordan Phillips both knelt during the national anthem last season. Per the team's new policy — which has not been released publicly — the Dolphins "could" fine or suspend any player who protests. "Could" leaves a lot of wiggle room, of course. The league and its teams seem to be doing whatever it takes to keep this story in the news. It is a baffling approach.

Vikings signed No. 30 overall pick CB Mike Hughes to a four-year contract.

As is the case with all first-rounders, Hughes' deal includes a fifth-year team option for 2022. A college journeyman, Hughes averaged 31.9 yards per kickoff return and 16.6 yards on punts, all told scoring three return TDs. Hughes also intercepted five passes at corner and allowed an anemic 43.9 passer rating when targeted (PFF). A 73rd-percentile SPARQ athlete who specializes in press coverage, Hughes’ biggest drawback is his size (5'10). He should begin his Vikings career in the slot while contributing on punt returns.

Ravens RG Marshal Yanda (active/PUP) is recovering from shoulder surgery.

When Yanda was first placed on the active/PUP list it was thought to be because of the ankle injury that ended his 2017 season in Week 2. Instead, it's related to a January shoulder operation. Yanda's ankle is apparently "fine." "We’re going to be cautious with him," coach John Harbaugh said, while also emphasizing that Yanda will be ready for Week 1. He's week to week.
Jul 19 - 2:29 PM

Allen Robinson (knee) is full-go for the start of Bears' training camp.

Robinson avoided the active/PUP list, meaning he is practicing without restriction. It's still possible the Bears hold their new No. 1 receiver out of some preseason action, but he should see some snaps on the exhibition field. Robinson will be exactly one year removed from his injury in Week 1.
