NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks are expected to cut DT Malik McDowell "in the near future."

The 35th overall pick in last year's draft, McDowell didn't play a snap as a rookie after suffering severe injuries in an offseason ATV accident. McDowell was then arrested last December for disorderly conduct in Atlanta. McDowell was a top-20 prospect on talent alone coming out of Michigan State in 2017, but fell in the draft due to off-field concerns, which now appear warranted.

Julio Jones and the Falcons have agreed on a contract adjustment, ensuring Jones will report to training camp on time.

There will be no holdout. Jones had fallen to the bottom of the ten highest-paid wide receivers after three seasons into his latest deal, and got his desired raise after finishing second in the NFL in receiving yards. Julio has incredibly topped 1,400 yards in four straight years. Behind Antonio Brown, he is squarely in the mix to be this year's No. 2-drafted wideout along with Odell Beckham and DeAndre Hopkins. The entire Falcons offense is primed for positive TD regression.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday that it would be "ideal" for Christian McCaffrey to handle 25 to 30 touches per game.

It's statements like this that confirm so many coaches ignore basic statistics and coach based almost entirely on "feel." The Cowboys previously suggested Tavon Austin could handle "12 to 24 touches per game," although that came from front office boss Stephen Jones. McCaffrey averaged just 12.3 touches per game as a rookie and managed 3.72 yards per carry. His target total -- 113, a league high among running backs -- is likely to diminish with D.J. Moore added at receiver and Greg Olsen back healthy. 14 to 16 touches per game would be a more realistic goal.

Cardinals signed S Tre Boston to a one-year contract.

Boston turned down a deal from Arizona earlier this offseason. The Cardinals were always his top landing spot with his ties to coach Steve Wilks. Boston's signing could help spark a run on veteran safeties. Kenny Vaccaro, Mike Mitchell, and Eric Reid all remain free agents.

NFL Network's Tiffany Blackmon reports the Falcons are "hopeful" to get something done with Julio Jones.

Jones didn't report for the start of training camp over his contract. The Falcons don't have a ton of cap space after extending Matt Ryan but may want to avoid a messy situation now that Jones is officially holding out. Jones has outlived the six-year, $81 million deal he signed in 2015. He could get a raise closer to the $16M annually Brandin Cooks got from the Rams.

Cameron Meredith (ACL, MCL) avoided the Saints' active/PUP list to begin camp.

Meredith tore his ACL and MCL last preseason, so he'll be over 12 months removed from the injury once the season starts. Coach Sean Payton said Wednesday the Saints plan to be "smart with him," and will likely limit Meredith's practice reps early in training camp. Meredith projects as the Saints' discount Marques Colston in the slot with Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn patrolling the outside.

Carson Wentz (knee) avoided the active/PUP list.

Wentz is expected to be limited to 7-on-7 drills early in training camp. The Eagles plan to monitor his progress before clearing him for full team reps. It's a best-case scenario for Wentz as he works his way back from December ACL surgery. Avoiding PUP suggests the Eagles are confident Wentz will be ready for Week 1.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones says there have been "no recent talks" with Seattle about Earl Thomas.

This falls in line with a previous report that Thomas-to-Cowboys rumors are "media hype." Thomas didn't report for the start of training camp and looks on his way out of Seattle, so it's possible the sides revisit talks. The Raiders have also been linked to Thomas, but the Seahawks are unwilling to lower their asking price to get a deal done.

Browns coach Hue Jackson doesn't expect Baker Mayfield to get many first-team reps in training camp.

"Tyrod Taylor is the starter," said Jackson. "I don’t envision any situation where all of a sudden (Mayfield’s) getting a bunch of first-team reps unless something happens." It confirms what Cleveland has been saying all offseason. The Browns are committed to Taylor as their Week 1 starter, but Mayfield could shorten the leash with a strong preseason.
Jul 25 - 5:02 PM

Raiders contract-year DE Khalil Mack will not report for the start of training camp.

This isn't a surprise after Mack sat out mandatory minicamp. The Raiders are in extension talks with Mack, but there hasn't been much progress since the Combine. Mack is targeting Von Miller money ($20 million annually with $65 million guaranteed). Now that he's officially holding out, there's a good chance Mack gets a new deal before Week 1.
Jul 25 - 2:49 PM

Richard Sherman (Achilles) has been cleared for the start of training camp.

Sherman was limited to individual work at OTAs. He'll get scheduled days off early in camp but it's been a faster than expected recovery for Sherman after going down last Week 10. Sherman remains on track to be 100 percent for Week 1.
Jul 25 - 2:10 PM

Odell Beckham was present for the start of training camp on Wednesday.

Beckham threatened a holdout at one point this offseason but eventually resurfaced for last month's minicamp. OBJ missed the bulk of last season with a broken ankle but appears to be trending toward full health. The contract-year wideout remains an upper-echelon fantasy wide receiver.
