Colts WR Deon Cain suffered a knee injury in Thursday night's game against the Seahawks and will not return.

The buzzed-about sixth-rounder had one catch for four yards before going down. It's possible the Colts are just exercising caution in an exhibition tilt, but even a few days of missed time would be costly for Cain as he attempts to out-shine his day-three label as a rookie. His status will be updated in the next 24 hours.

Appearing on NFL Network, Ian Rapoport referred to Chris Carson as the Seahawks' "bellcow" back.

"He's probably going to be their starter," RapSheet reiterated. Rapoport also stated there is some concern Rashaad Penny's hand surgery could cost him 1-2 regular season games. It will certainly limit Penny's ability to practice and improve in pass protection, where he struggled at San Diego State and in Seattle's preseason opener. Carson is shaping up as a viable mid-round RB3/flex.

Raiders WR Ryan Switzer has worked behind journeyman Griff Whalen at recent training camp practices.

Switzer also ran behind Whalen in Oakland's preseason opener, although Switzer caught a touchdown pass and played well in the game. Switzer and Whalen are competing to upgrade on Seth Roberts, who is on the chopping block and has missed recent time with an undisclosed injury. Oakland's slot battle is unlikely to produce fantasy value, but that could change if Jordy Nelson goes down.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll expects Rashaad Penny (broken finger) to be ready for the start of the season.

Penny has a 3-4 week timetable after undergoing surgery. The Seahawks have a history of rose-colored injury outlooks, but Penny looks like a good bet to be back for Week 1. Penny's missed training camp reps and his ball security coming off a broken finger are the bigger concerns. He may have a limited early season role behind Chris Carson.

NFL suspended Broncos WR Carlos Henderson one game for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Henderson remains AWOL from the Broncos after not reporting to training camp. He's now been slapped with a drug ban. Henderson was already facing extremely long odds of making an impact in 2018. A third-rounder last year, Henderson is looking like another draft whiff by GM John Elway.

Cameron Meredith (undisclosed) returned to practice Wednesday.

Meredith had been sidelined multiple days in a row and didn't suit up for the preseason opener. There was some level of concern on Tuesday, but Meredith was back out there today and appears ready to make some steps forward in his return from a torn ACL. We doubt he plays this weekend, but Meredith is still a nice later-round flier in 12-team fantasy drafts.

Jeremy McNichols has been running with the 49ers' first-team offense in the absence of injured RBs Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida.

McNichols was a fifth-round pick of the Bucs last year but failed to make the team out of camp and spent most of last season on the Niners' practice squad. McKinnon has a knee strain, and Breida is out multiple weeks with a separated shoulder. With that, it appears McNichols has a handle on No. 3 running back duties and could start and get plenty of run in the second preseason game.

Rishard Matthews (undisclosed) remains sidelined at Titans camp.

Matthews made an appearance at Wednesday's practice but was merely spotted watching the session from the sideline. The media still has no information on what exactly the issue is with Matthews, but he hasn't practiced yet this summer and doesn't have a known timetable for return. In his absence, Taywan Taylor has been getting first-team reps opposite Corey Davis, and by most accounts Taylor has been a standout. Matthews isn't worth drafting in fantasy right now.

ESPN Jaguars reporter Michael DiRocco reports second-round rookie D.J. Chark has been the "most impressive receiver" at training camp.

Each of the Jaguars' receivers has earned praise at some point this summer; sophomore Dede Westbrook was the one getting the hype earlier this week. But DiRocco says Chark has "routinely" been making catches over defenders, including CBs Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye. Chark is a phenomenal athlete with long speed and a lengthy frame. He caught his lone target for 15 yards in the first preseason game. The Jaguars may use a committee approach at wideout.

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports the Dolphins have no plans to trade WR DeVante Parker.

Now wouldn't be an ideal time anyway, with Parker suffering a broken finger and in question for the start of the season. His value is at its low point right now. Parker had a dreadful 2017 season, scoring just one touchdown and producing zero 100-yard games. He also had a quiet camp before getting hurt. Expectations are lower for the 2015 first-rounder, but perhaps Ryan Tannehill being back healthy will help Parker. He's currently being picked in the 10th round of fantasy drafts.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Rashaad Penny will undergo surgery for his broken finger and will be out 3-4 weeks.

The first NFL Sunday of the regular season is in 3.5 weeks, so Penny will be right up against it to be ready. He's sure to miss the remainder of the preseason and training camp and will be limited to "mental" reps. Chris Carson can distance himself even more from Penny atop Seattle's backfield depth chart.

The Ahtletic's Jeff Zrebiec considers John Brown the "standout" of Ravens camp.

Per Zrebiec, "nobody made more plays than Brown during training camp." Zrebiec is echoing coach John Harbaugh, who singled Brown out for praise on Wednesday. Brown has proven to be an electrifying playmaker when healthy, but he spent much of the past two years battling complications from his sickle-cell trait. If Brown is beyond that this season, he will be an ideal deep target for big-armed Joe Flacco, and quite possibly the Ravens' No. 1 receiver.
