Coach Mike McCarthy said Geronimo Allison (hamstring) and Randall Cobb (hamstring) will again work off to the side with the rehab group at Friday's practice.

That would suggest they'll be limited at best on the practice report. While it's encouraging both are working on the field, it doesn't sound all that promising for their Monday night status against the 49ers. The good news is they have an extra day this week. We'll know more about both Saturday.

Falcons placed RB Devonta Freeman (foot, groin) on injured reserve.

Having just returned from a three-game absence with a knee injury in Week 5, Freeman promptly injured his foot. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports he's undergoing groin surgery, however. Per Rapsheet, Freeman will be a candidate for return. He must miss a minimum of eight games. That means even if he comes back, his fantasy season is functionally over. Tevin Coleman slides into the Falcons' 1A role with fourth-round rookie Ito Smith occupying the 1B. Both should see plenty of work. Coleman will be more of an RB2 than RB1. Freeman has now missed 6-of-22 games since signing a six-year, $43.088 million contract in August 2017. It's fair to wonder if the 5-foot-8 back is starting to break down at age 26.

Ohio State DE Nick Bosa withdrew from school to focus on rehab and getting ready for the NFL Draft.

Bosa has been sidelined the last several weeks with a core-muscle injury which required surgery. He was expected to return this season, especially with Ohio State in the playoff mix, but he has decided to focus on draft prep instead. There is obviously a long way to go, but Bosa is squarely in the No. 1 overall pick conversation. Joey Bosa, Nick's older brother, went third overall in the 2016 draft.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent WR Rishard Matthews is working out for the Jets on Tuesday.

Matthews visited with the Browns and Cardinals last week. Cut by the Titans at the end of September, it is surprising Matthews has not found a new home yet, but perhaps he is just looking for the best possible landing spot. New York just lost Quincy Enunwa to an ankle injury.

Evan Engram (knee) participated in Tuesday's practice.

Engram appeared close to playing last Thursday, so it is not a surprise he is back on the practice field early this week. Engram said he is very optimistic about playing Monday night against the Falcons.

Giants owner John Mara thinks Odell Beckham "needs to do a little more playing and a little less talking."

"I wish he would create the headlines by his play on the field as opposed to what he says and what he does off the field," Mara added. It is good Mara has identified Beckham as the Giants' real problem and not Eli Manning's ever deteriorating skill set.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Josh Gordon's "role is expanding weekly."

That was certainly the case against the Chiefs when Gordon played 63-of-78 snaps on his way to nine targets. He only managed five catches for 42 yards with that opportunity, but he is clearly trending in the correct direction. He will be an upside WR3 this week against the Bears.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports Josh Allen (elbow) will not start Week 7 against the Colts.

Russini adds, "There is concern he will miss weeks." Russini also reports the Bills have yet to decide who will start in place of Allen, but "there is a feeling" coach Sean McDermott "is in danger of losing the locker room" if Nathan Peterman gets another start. Derek Anderson, who was just signed last week, is the only other option on the roster.

Aaron Jones rushed eight times for 41 yards in the Packers' Week 6 win over the 49ers.

The good news is Jones started for the Packers. His first run was a 16-yard scamper on the game's second play that was initially ruled a 17-yard touchdown before getting reversed. Jones got the call from the one-yard line on the next play but was stuffed for a one-yard loss before Ty Montgomery then scored on second down. Jones was targeted once in the pass game but dropped it, leading to more frustration for him. He's not going to get more looks in the pass game if he does that. Jamaal Williams rushed six times for 29 yards as this thing remains a total timeshare. Jones simply isn't getting enough carries and isn't taking advantage of pass-game spots to be trusted in fantasy lineups ahead of the Packers' Week 8 game against the Rams after the bye.
Oct 16 - 12:24 AM

Jimmy Graham caught 5-of-9 targets for 104 yards in the Packers' Week 6 win over the 49ers.

Graham has seen a combined 21 targets the last two weeks with Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison hurt. He's put the yards on the board, but Graham hasn't found pay dirt in that span. He ran free for a 54-yard gain in the first half of this one and bailed the offense out with a number of tough third-down grabs with Aaron Rodgers in trouble. Graham gets the Rams in Week 8 after the bye and will remain an every-week TE1, even with Cobb and Allison coming back.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert rushed 12 times for 87 yards in Monday night's Week 6 loss to the Packers.

The fourth-year UDFA out of Purdue entered Monday with 13 career carries for 47 yards and has bounced around the league since entering it. He's settled in with San Francisco over the last year-plus and finally got his chance against Green Bay, taking full advantage with a team-high 87 yards on the ground. He and Matt Breida split the work, with Breida getting 14 carries to Mostert's 12 while previous change-of-pace Alfred Morris watched from the sideline and got zero touches. The offense just moved at a better pace with Mostert's speed instead of Morris' sloth-like suddenness. Mostert has probably earned 8-12 carries a week with this night, while Morris can be dropped in all fantasy formats.
Oct 16 - 12:06 AM

Alfred Morris didn't touch the ball in the 49ers' Week 6 loss to the Packers on Monday night.

Morris played one offensive snap. When he did touch the ball, Morris had an eight-yard run called back on a hold. He remained stationed on the sideline as the Niners went with a Matt Breida-Raheem Mostert tandem in the backfield. And those two shredded the Green Bay defense, combining for 148 yards and a score on 26 carries. Mostert led the way with 87 yards on 12 carries (7.25 YPC) and likely stole Morris' job in doing so. The offense was just so much more explosive with speed guys Breida and Mostert rather than slug Morris slowing the unit down with his three yards and a cloud of dust. Morris can be dropped in all formats.
