DeBoer added that Kovalchuk's return "could be sooner than later." The Devils winger is slated to see doctors on Wednesday for an assessment and his status for Game 3 will be evaluated prior to Thursday night's contest at Prudential Center.

John Gibson stopped the Panthers 50 times in Sunday night's 3-2 victory.

It was one save shy of his career high as the Panthers were rejected time and time again. The win, Gibson's second straight, improves his record to 7-6-1 this season with a .924 save percentage and 2.78 goals against average.

Henrik Lundqvist turned aside all 20 shots he faced from the struggling Ottawa Senators offence in a 3-0 win on Sunday night.

Lundqvist snapped a two game slump and his teammates made it relatively easy for him, as he needed to make just three saves while shorthanded. The King improves to 9-6-2 this season with a 2.81 goals against average and .911 save percentage.

Nathan MacKinnon was late to the party, but ultimately helped the Avalanche edge the Red Wings 4-3 in overtime on Sunday.

MacKinnon assisted on Carl Soderberg's tying goal in the final minute of regulation, then scored the overtime winner to give Colorado the victory. MacKinnon, fresh off a five point performance last week against Washington, now has 22 points in 19 games this season.

Hampus Lindholm is expected to return from a lower-body injury Sunday night.

Lindholm didn't play on Wednesday due to the ailment. Look for him to play alongside Josh Manson against Florida.

Victor Rask will be a healthy scratch for the Hurricanes on Sunday against the Islanders.

Josh Jooris will take Rask's place in the lineup. Rask, who has only three goals and five points in 18 games this season, logged 11:50 of ice time on Saturday versus Buffalo.

The Detroit Red Wings will finally be able to welcome Danny DeKeyser (ankle) back to the lineup Sunday and the veteran defenseman is itching to get back.

"I think it’s been 16, 17 games, something like that. So, I’m excited to get back in there," DeKeyser said. "Foot’s been feeling really good. I got some good skates in, this week, so I’m just ready to get out there, tomorrow. It was an ankle injury that kind of, at first, looked like more like a sprain. But the more it went on, they took a second look at it and there was a small fracture in there." DeKeyser has only been able to appear in three games this season, averaging 23 minutes of action in his two full healthy games. He's a stabilizing all-around rearguard but shouldn't be added in fantasy leagues.

Brayden Schenn continues to perform for the Blues after he scored the overtime winner Saturday night against Vancouver.

"I don't know if the puck rolled," Schenn said. "I kinda chucked a changeup on net, and I'll definitely take goals like that. It wasn't an unbelievable shot by any means. It was a lucky shot and I'll definitely take goals like that." Schenn has tallied a ridiculous 15 points over his last seven games, and 26 points in 21 games overall. The Blues acquired the 26-year-old forward by giving up Jori Lehtera with two first round picks (one of them being a conditional first). Schenn is centering Tarasenko and Schwartz and they have formed one of the best lines in the NHL this season.
