Alex Pietrangelo will dress in Game 3 on Thursday night versus the Los Angeles Kings.

The team's top defender missed Game 2's 5-2 pounding at the hands of the Kings due to a knee injury that he sustained in the series opening. "We're hoping that the whole stability part gets back to our team, where we've got the right players playing in the right situations," said coach Ken Hitchcock. "There's going to be no tie-down on allowing him to play the minutes. He's going to have to play big minutes and he knows that. We waited until the last possible minute to where could play without any reservation. He's there now." Pietrangelo is the team leader in average ice time during the postseason at 24:42 per contest and he leads the Blues' defense corps with four points, all of them assists, and a plus-3 rating.

Jonathan Toews just isn't improving, and is due to take a few more days off before trying to get back on to the ice.

Tough news for the Captain and the team, but at least he's not getting worse. Stay patient, Toews will return at some point.
Dec 4 - 5:17 PM

Jonathan Drouin will not play in Sunday's match with Carolina due to an undisclosed injury.

Tough break both all involved. The 21-year-old winger has three goals and 10 points in 19 games. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Dec 4 - 4:47 PM

Mark Scheifele will miss his second straight game on Sunday against the Blackhawks with a lower body injury.

Through 26 games this season, the youngster appears to have fully realized his talent with 13 goals and 26 points to go along with 22 PIMs, 28 hits and 14 blocks.
Dec 4 - 4:31 PM

The LA Kings have sent Teddy Purcell down to AHL Ontario.

With Purcell down on the farm, the Kings will retrieve $950K of his $1.6M cap hit. The 31-year-old winger has been hampered by poor health and ineffective play all season. He posted just a pair of helpers in 12 games.
Dec 4 - 3:12 PM

Johnny Hockey's back, baby.

Johnny Gaudreau will return to the Flames' lineup on Sunday after missing the last three weeks with a broken finger. He has five goals and 11 points in 17 games this season, and will face the Ducks tonight.
Dec 4 - 1:11 PM

Chicago coach Joel Quenneville told the media that he will update Jonathan Toews status at 4:00 pm on Sunday.

Toews is dealing with a back injury and was placed on injured reserve on Friday. We should find out more about his condition and timeline for a return Sunday afternoon.
Dec 4 - 12:24 PM

Mike Smith was in goal for the 3-2 shootout loss of the Arizona Coyotes to the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday night.

Smith was stellar for most of the night with a save percentage of .967, but he let the first two shootout goals slip past him in the loss. If he looked a little tired, he had every right to be as he faced 60 shots and blocked 58 of them. Each week someone has to lose, but Smith was hardly a bad value in this contest.
Dec 4 - 12:56 AM

Auston Matthews tied Saturday's game versus the Vancouver Canucks at the 1:56 mark of the third period before eventually losing in a shootout by a score of 3-2.

This was Matthews’ 11th goal of the season. Notably, the other scorer for the Leafs also recorded his 11th when James van Riemsdyk sunk a puck at the 11:30 mark of the second. The two shooters are tied at the top of the Leafs' leaderboard in terms of goals.
Dec 4 - 12:38 AM

Alex Pietrangelo had an assist on both St Louis Blues goals as they lost a 3-2 decision in overtime to the Winnipeg Jets Saturday night.

Pietrangelo’s assists were to Alexander Steen at the 5:16 minute mark and Dmitrij Jaskin’s at 7:26. This lifts him to nine assists for the season and 14 points—decent marks for a defenseman. Pietrangelo has scored points in four of his last five games.
Dec 4 - 12:22 AM

Tyler Seguin scored a goal and an assist as the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Saturday.

The assists were mostly there for Seguin lately, but he had been struggling a bit - at least by his terms - to find the net. Now he has a two-game goal streak and a four-game point streak (2G, 3A). Seguin has nine goals and 27 points in 26 games so far in 2016-17.
Dec 3 - 11:45 PM

Ben Bishop faced 35 shots and stopped all but one of them as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1 Saturday night.

Bishop needed an outing like this. He has been on a freefall in recent events with a four-game losing streak that witnessed a save percentage of no more than .900. His season mark plummeted to .902, which probably meant he was not on very many radar screens. Blocking 34 of 35 shots Saturday night gave him a .971, however, and will undoubtedly raise his salary cap in coming contests.
