Sabre rearguard Andrej Sekera has arguably been the Slovaks' best player during the World Hockey Championships.

He leads his team in scoring with nine points in nine games and was instrumental in setting up the winning goal against Canada in the quarterfinal. The Slovaks will face the Russians in the final Sunday. We have been waiting for Sekera to assert himself in the NHL. Perhaps this positive performance at the World Championships will be the catalyst for improved results in 2012-13.

Eric Staal scored a late goal to earn his 900th NHL point as the Minnesota Wild defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-2 on Thursday night.

Staal's 27th goal of the year came with a little over a minute left in regulation and into an empty net to secure the win for the Wild, who came back from a 2-0 deficit with three second period goals. This may open up debate on whether or not the 900 points earn him a spot in the Hall-of-Fame. He now has 27 goals and 54 points in 60 games this season.

Peter Mrazek stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced on Thursday night as he won his first game as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Mrazek looked comfortable in his debut with the Flyers, making key saves along the way, including a beauty against Zach Werenski. He was beaten only by Artemi Panarin, but Nolan Patrick and Claude Giroux's third period goals lifted the Flyers to victory. Mrazek's play earned him the player-of-the-game robe from his teammates, a Philadelphia tradition. He improves to 9-7-3 on the season with a 2.80 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.
Feb 22 - 9:50 PM

Nolan Patrick scored the game-winning goal as the Philadelphia Flyers topped the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Thursday night.

The Flyers trailed by one heading into the third period until goals from Giroux and Patrick put them ahead for good and led them to victory. Patrick's goal, his eighth of the season and his third in as many games, was scored off a rebound of a Shayne Gostisbehere shot. He now has 17 points in 52 games and has recorded a point in four straight games.

Updating a previous item, Travis Konecny (foot) won't play on Thursday night.

Konecny appeared to suffer the injury in Tuesday's game against Montreal, after he blocked a shot in the opening period. Taylor Leier will take Konecny's spot in the lineup. Mark Alt will serve as a healthy scratch for the Flyers.

Louis Domingue will get the start in Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators.

Domingue last played on Feb. 13 when he lost a 5-3 decision to the Buffalo Sabres. The Bolts backup netminder has a 2-2-0 record with a 3.90 goals-against-average and a .877 save percentage this season.
Feb 22 - 6:26 PM

The New York Islanders and Josh Bailey are reportedly close to a multi-year agreement.

The final terms will reportedly be in the ballpark of five or six years with an annual cap hit of about $5 million. If that ends up being what happens, it seems pretty reasonable. Bailey is enjoying a huge season with 15 goals and 62 points in 57 contests, so if he manages to stay at that level then the Islanders will be getting a big bargain. Of course, they're also assuming a risk given that for most of his career, Bailey has been a 30-40ish point player. That being said, he did have 13 goals and 56 points in 2016-17, so while he's reaching new heights this season, it didn't come completely out of nowhere. Plus, if re-signing him helps convince his frequent linemate John Tavares to stay with the Islanders, then this will be money well spent.
Feb 22 - 5:59 PM

Bobby Ryan (finger) is good to return on Thursday.

It will be Ryan's first game since Feb. 1. He has seven goals and 20 points in 39 contests this season. Get him back in your lineup if you have him.
Feb 22 - 5:37 PM

Rick Nash and Michael Grabner will both be healthy scratches on Thursday.

The Rangers are attempting to trade Nash and Grabner before the deadline and something might be imminent. Either way, this is a precautionary measure to keep them healthy.
Feb 22 - 5:25 PM

Carey Price is out indefinitely with a concussion.

Price took a shot off his mask on Tuesday and while he stayed in that game, it seems the incident had a lasting effect. As with all concussions, it's not clear how long he'll be sidelined for. It might be that he'll be back soon or this could mark the end of what has been a difficult season for him.
Feb 22 - 5:23 PM

Jon Gillies will get his first start of the 2017-18 campaign on Thursday.

Gillies had made two appearances for the Flames before that and posted a 4.35 GAA and .815 save percentage over 69 minutes of ice time. At the AHL level, he has a 2.61 GAA and .915 save percentage in 31 contests this season.
Feb 22 - 3:35 PM

The Florida Panthers have acquired Frank Vatrano from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a third round pick.

Vatrano hasn't been able to play since Feb. 2 due to a lower-body injury and it's not clear when he'll return. Before the injury, his role with Boston was minimal this season as he averaged 9:28 minutes per game and had two goals in 25 contests. The 23-year-old was strong with UMass-Amherst before turning pro in 2015 and he has excelled at the AHL level. A fresh start might be what he needs to move past his more recent struggles and injury misfortune.
