Evgeni Malkin has won the Kharlamov Trophy which is awarded to the best Russian player in the NHL.

Malkin led the NHL in points in the 2011-12 regular season with 109, including 50 goals. "This prize is very valuable for me because the winner is chosen by the players themselves," Malkin told rt.com at a ceremony in Moscow. "It's nice when friends off the ice and enemies on the rink are watching your game, and are even afraid of you at times." Malkin has already won the Art Ross Trophy for the most points in the NHL and is favored to win the Hart Trophy which goes to the most valuable player in the league.

Casey DeSmith will start Tuesday's game against Carolina.

This shouldn't come as a surprise, as DeSmith has played well in Pittsburgh's last two games. He has picked up a win and a loss, while stopping 62 of the 65 shots he has faced.
Jan 23 - 11:28 AM

Corey Perry skated on the fourth line during Monday's practice.

It's probably not a permanent move, but that might be the role Perry has for Tuesday's contest at least. Perry has left something to be desired this season with seven goals and 23 points in 37 contests and if you want to be optimistic, you could hope that this demotion will light a fire under him. Meanwhile, Ondrej Kase is skating on the top unit. These moves are in response to the Ducks' rough 6-2 loss to San Jose on Sunday.
Jan 23 - 9:30 AM

Brendan Perlini picked up an even-strength goal in Monday's 3-2 victory against the Islanders.

Perlini flicked the switch on the goal lamp for the third consecutive outing, and he has five goals across his past 10 contests. He has picked up the pace with 2.4 shots per game in eight January outings after managing just 1.8 SOG in 12 December contests. His confidence on the offensive end is growing, but his fantasy value remains strictly limited to deeper pools.
Jan 23 - 12:08 AM

Antti Raanta allowed just two goals on 34 shots in Monday's 3-2 overtime victory against the visiting Islanders.

Raanta improved to 8-12-5 overall on the season, with three of those victories coming in seven January outings. He has lost just once in regulation since flipping the calendar from 2017, losing three times in a shootout. Raanta has allowed three or fewer goals in each of his six January outings, and 14 of his past 16 appearances overall. Despite playing for the cellar-dwelling Coyotes he has emerged as a decent low-end No. 2 fantasy backstop.
Jan 23 - 12:00 AM

Anthony Beauvillier stayed red hot in Monday's overtime loss at Arizona, potting his 11th and 12th goals of the season.

There is something about January which agrees with Beauvillier. He closed out 2017 with four goals and seven points through his first 31 games. Since flipping the calendar over to 2018 he has managed eight goals with nine points and a plus-7 rating in seven January outings. He is worth using in all standard fantasy pools right now, and he is a slam-dunk play in DFS while running hot.
Jan 22 - 11:54 PM

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 40 shots in Monday's 2-0 win at Chicago for his seventh shutout of the season, tying a franchise record.

Vasilevskiy equaled the previous franchise best for shutouts set by Nikolai Khabibulin back during the 2001-02 season. The team has 35 more contests remaining, so there is a more than good chance that he sits alone at the top of the list barring any disaster. The Lightning travel to Nashville on Tuesday before moving on to Philadelphia on Thursday.
Jan 22 - 11:10 PM

Mikael Granlund picked up a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Granlund collected the primary assist on Jason Zucker's game-winning goal five minutes into the third period. The Wild forward then scored a power play goal midway through the final frame to push Minnesota ahead by two goals. Granlund finished the game with an even rating and four shots on goal in 17:30 of ice time. The 25-year-old has 14 goals and 38 points in 43 games this season. He has 11 points in his last eight contests.
Jan 22 - 11:06 PM

Petr Mrazek turned aside all 37 shots he faced in Monday's 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Mrazek has won back-to-back games and he's posted shutouts in both outings. The Red Wings netminder has had issues with consistency over the last couple of seasons, but he could earn more starts if he continues playing like this. Mrazek has a 4-5-1 record with a 3.14 goals-against-average and a .904 save percentage this season.
Jan 22 - 10:56 PM

Dylan Larkin scored a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Larkin registered the primary assist on Tyler Bertuzzi's first-period goal, which proved to be the game-winner. He then added a goal of his own at the 11:02 mark of the third period to extend the lead to 3-0. Larkin has now racked up four points in his last four games. He's up to eight goals and 30 assists in 46 games this season. David Booth also found the back of the net for the Red Wings in this one.
Jan 22 - 10:46 PM

Jonathan Bernier allowed two goals on 31 shots in Monday's 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Colorado's winning streak has now hit 10 games. The Avs scored the game's first goal, but they found themselves down 2-1 in the second frame. That was the first time they trailed during their winning streak. Bernier's been between the pipes for nine of the 10 games. The Avs netminder has also given up two goals or fewer in all but one of those nine victories. Bernier has a 14-7-1 record with a 2.58 goals-against-average and a .920 save percentage this season.
Jan 22 - 10:37 PM

Nathan MacKinnon has earned the NHL's first star of the week.

MacKinnon accounted for four goals and two assists in three contests during the period ending Jan. 21. He added two game-winning goals to his league-leading total of seven. MacKinnon has amassed 23 goals and 59 points in 45 games this season.
