Shane Doan has inked a four-year/$21.2 million deal with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Doan narrowed his choices down to Vancouver and Phoenix before ultimately deciding to stay with the franchise that originally drafted him. It is believed that Phoenix was always his first choice, but he wanted to wait for the Coyotes ownership situation to become clearer before signing. Doan might have ultimately been motivated by the fact that the current CBA is set to expire on Saturday. As it stands, Greg Jamison might end up buying the Coyotes, but nothing has been set in stone yet.

Carey Price kicked aside 30 shots as he and the Canadiens blanked the Maple Leafs 4-0 on Saturday night.

Price has won four games in a row, giving up a total of five goals during that span. He is clearly ahead in the Vezina race, now with a league-leading 36 wins, 1.88 goals-against average and .936 save percentage. He also has six shutouts. In fact, he might be the frontrunner for the Hart Trophy, too.

Antoine Vermette has been traded from the Coyotes to Blackhawks for a first-round pick and prospect Klas Dahlbeck.

Vermette was one of the more highly sought after players as a solid faceoff center who can play an adequate two-way game in more of a middle-six role. And after losing Patrick Kane, Chicago was in the market for a forward, though Vermette won’t be nearly as dangerous from an offensive perspective. He has 13 goals and 35 points this season. Vermette could end up centering the team's second line, or perhaps third, if coach Joel Quenneville wants to keep Brad Richards as the 2C. Either way, Chicago becomes a deeper team and Vermette's fantasy prospects improve.

The Ducks are getting calls on Matt Beleskey, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Of course, the complication is that Beleskey, an unrestricted free agent, has been important to the Ducks this season, and they have hopes of going far in the playoffs. Beleskey has 21 goals and 30 points, in what has been a career season. The forward is out with a shoulder injury but has recently started to skate again.

Zdeno Chara scored on the power play and assisted in the Bruins’ 4-1 win over the Coyotes on Saturday night.

Chara still makes his presence felt in a positive way for Boston, even if his offensive production has slowed at 37. The goal was just his fifth of the season — first since Feb. 16 — and he now has 19 points. Fantasy owners will have to reel back their expectations next season. Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic matched Chara’s night with a goal and an assist of their own. Brad Marchand picked up the other goal.

John Tavares scored his 30th goal of the 2014-15 season on Saturday, but the New York Islanders lost to the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 5-3.

That represented his 65th point of this campaign, at least briefly putting him alone at first place in NHL scoring. That could change as Saturday goes along, but the bottom line is that he's having another strong season.
Feb 28 - 8:09 PM

Cory Schneider improved to 23-23-6 as the New Jersey Devils beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-0 on Saturday.

He stopped all 33 shots for his fourth shutout of 2014-15 and second in his last four games. His record isn't great, but a .927 save percentage argues that he deserves better.

Pekka Rinne and the Nashville Predators are still struggling a bit lately, including Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Rinne only has one win in his last five starts (1-3-1), as he allowed four goals on 25 shots against the Red Wings. His overall stats are still Vezina-worthy, however, so fantasy owners shouldn't be too worried just yet.
Feb 28 - 6:20 PM

"The Monster" Jonas Gustavsson continues to be sharp since returning from injury issues, as he was a big factor in the Detroit Red Wings' 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators.

Gustavsson stopped 37 out of 40 shots for his third win of the season. He's stopped 65 out of 69 shots since returning to action, making it easier to justify demoting Petr Mrazek.

The Anaheim Ducks grabbed Tomas Fleischmann from the Florida Panthers for Dany Heatley and a third-round pick.

"The Flash" hasn't enjoyed a great season with Florida, but he's shown flashes of brilliance in his NHL career, making him an intriguing piece in Anaheim. It doesn't hurt that he has money to earn, either.

Scary stuff for Buffalo Sabres prospect Mark Pysyk: he was reportedly hospitalized after collapsing during a pickup game of basketball.

He was described as "fairly alert and his vital signs were close to normal" while he was being transported by paramedics, so that's a good thing. It's unclear how much this incident may affect his future in the sport.

Dallas coach Lindy Ruff was extremely critical of Kari Lehtonen following the Stars' 5-4 shootout loss to Colorado Friday night.

In fact, Ruff seemed to blame the loss entirely on Lehtonen. "I know this is hard, but the goaltending performance doesn't match the effort of the team,' Ruff said. 'You need goaltending. It's as simple as that. There's nights that he has to steal games, there's nights where he has to out-perform the other guy. Our goaltending has been tough on our team, and I think that's where the frustration is." There is no telling whether Lehtonen will get the start Sunday against Anaheim. It's not as if newly-acquired Jhonas Enroth, who has yet to win in four starts with the Stars, has been any better.
