Eric Staal said the time he spent in the AHL during the 2004-05 lockout helped him and the Carolina Hurricanes are hoping that Justin Faulk and Jeff Skinner will benefit from the experience as well.

"You have to make the most of it and that's what I tried to do," Staal said. "Looking back, it benefited me. It was being put in situations where I could succeed – being put on the power play, penalty kill, first-line minutes. Just that pressure to succeed, that pressure to be counted on every game." Staal notched 26 goals and 77 points in 77 games in the minors that year. He went on to state that when he received those key minutes in the NHL the following year it allowed him to feel more comfortable, which contributed to him amassing 100 points during the 2005-06 NHL campaign. Faulk and Skinner are highly-touted prospects, who have already experienced some success at the NHL level at a very young age. They will help bolster what should be a strong AHL at the start of the season because of the lockout their parent teams are going through.

Trevor Daley suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Red Wings have already announced that he won't be returning to tonight's game. The team will likely give a more detailed update on his status after the game or in the coming days.
Jan 20 - 8:32 PM

Morgan Rielly (upper body) won't play in Saturday's game against the Ottawa Senators.

Rielly didn't practice on Friday and his status was downgraded to "doubtful" earlier this morning, so it isn't shocking to see him sit out. He has 31 points in 47 games this season. He's considered day-to-day for now.
Jan 20 - 6:41 PM

Head coach Peter DeBoer has confirmed that starting goaltender Martin Jones is dealing with a lower-body injury.

DeBoer added that the injury is not considered serious but Jones won't make the trip to Anaheim. We'll likely get another update on his status after tomorrow's game vs. the Ducks but for now owners of Jones should consider picking up Aaron Dell if they are in a bind.
Jan 20 - 6:38 PM

Head coach John Tortorella has announced that forward Cam Atkinson will travel with the team for their two-game road trip.

It's a good sign that Atkinson is trending in the right direction for suiting up on Tuesday against in Vegas. Even when he does return, it might be best to keep him on the wire considering he has only 13 points in 32 games this season.
Jan 20 - 6:35 PM

Casey DeSmith will get the start in Saturday's game against the Sharks.

DeSmith will make a second straight start he made 28 saves in a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. He has a 1-1-0 record this year at the NHL level with a 2.14 goals-against-average and a .906 save percentage.
Jan 20 - 6:29 PM

Henrik Lundqvist allowed two goals on 36 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Lundqvist made his 40th appearance of the season tonight, making him the only player in NHL history to play at least 40 games in his first 13 seasons. The numerous injuries have caught up to the Rangers and without Lundqvist, this game would have gotten out of hand in a hurry. The Swedish netminder now has a 21-12-4 record with a 2.54 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
Jan 20 - 6:08 PM

Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal and picked up an assist in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers.

MacKinnon scored a beautiful goal, going from left to right before firing a perfect shot in behind Henrik Lundqvist to put the Avalanche up 2-0 in the second period. His two points bring his tally to 59 points in 45 games, with 19 of them coming in his last nine games. The 22-year-old forward is two points shy of Nikita Kucherov for the NHL lead. Erik Johnson and Mikko Rantanen also scored in the win.
Jan 20 - 6:02 PM

Michal Neuvirth stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Neuvirth started two straight games for the Flyers for the first time since early November. He has won each of his last three starts and could begin earning more action over Brian Elliott. With the Flyers back in action tomorrow night, Elliott might be back in goal. How Elliott fairs in tomorrow's game will likely have a big impact on the decision of who will start on Tuesday against the Red Wings.
Jan 20 - 4:54 PM

The Colorado Avalanche will welcome back Tyson Jost to the lineup this afternoon against the New York Rangers.

Jost has eight points in 27 games this season and missed just one game due to his injury. Colin Wilson will be sacrificed in order to make room for the rookie forward. A.J. Greer and David Warsofsky will also be scratched.
Jan 20 - 3:01 PM

Reports are coming in that Martin Jones is day-to-day with what is considered a minor injury.

The injury could explain Jones' poor performances of late. Jones has only won one of his last five games, allowing 17 goals. The Sharks have recalled Troy Grosenick who will likely backup up Aaron Dell tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins. All Martin Jones owners should consider picking up Dell if they are in a bind.
