The collective-bargaining negotiations between the NHL and the Players' Association has finished up for the day, and the two sides plan to meet Saturday and Sunday as well.

Don't get too excited just yet. The two sides discussed the secondary components, which includes drug testing, medical care, joint health and safety committee, training camp, conditioning camp and scheduling issues. While it's certainly a good thing both sides met, NHLPA counsel Steve Fehr says there are no plans to discuss the core economic issues over the next few days. Donald Fehr and Garry Bettman reportedly had a private meeting. Saturday's topic of discussion is expected to be "league economic framework."

Ryan Callahan (lower body) hasn't been ruled out of playing Thursday, but he said it's more realistic that his return could come on Saturday.

He participated in a full practice on Wednesday and remained on the ice for a little while afterward. "We've been hammering it with treatment and rehab, and it's responded well," Callahan said. "It's improved tremendously." He has been sidelined since Oct. 20.

Viktor Fasth (groin) is ready to return to the Oilers' lineup.

Fasth has been out for about two weeks due to the injury. He got off to a poor start in 2014-15, but now that he's back, he'll resume competing with Ben Scrivens for the starting job.

Taylor Hall scored a goal in Edmonton’s 4-1 loss to Nashville on Wednesday night.

It took Edmonton almost two and a half periods to beat Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne. Hall finally got Edmonton on the board at 8:54 of the third period. The 22-year-old is off to a solid start. Hall now has six goals and nine points in 10 games. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle picked up the assists on Hall’s goal. The loss ends Edmonton’s four-game winning streak.
Oct 30 - 12:41 AM

Washington superstar Alex Ovechkin had seven shots on goal Wednesday night but was held without a point for the fifth consecutive game.

It's the longest drought of Ovechkin's NHL career. The Caps were defeated 4-2 on their home ice by the Detroit Red Wings.
Oct 29 - 10:33 PM

Matt Stajan (knee) has been placed on injured reserve by the Flames.

He's expected to miss about six weeks. Stajan had a knee-on-knee collision with Montreal's Jarred Tinordi on Tuesday night and it looked like he could be done for the year. He has one goal and one assist in 11 games.
Oct 29 - 6:39 PM

Johan Franzen (groin) felt much better when he took to the ice on Wednesday.

He's much more optimistic about returning soon to the lineup. Franzen wouldn't rule out being available for Friday's home game against Los Angeles, but said that Sunday's contest at Buffalo was probably more realistic.
Oct 29 - 6:02 PM

Jake Allen will be in goal for the Blues on Thursday night.

Coach Ken Hitchcock was asked about the status of David Backes for Thursday's match against Anaheim and he said: "There is a chance the lineup won't change one bit, except Jake Allen is the goalie." Allen owns a 1-1-0 record to go with a .915 save percentage and a 2.02 goals-against average.

John Moore has received a five-game suspension from the league for his illegal check to the head of Minnesota forward Erik Haula.

Moore's elbow came up on the play and appeared to make contact with the head of Haula, who was injured and unable to return to Monday's contest. The Rangers blueliner won't be eligible to return until Nov. 11 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Oct 29 - 5:09 PM

Torey Krug will be out of action for the next two to three weeks because of a broken finger.

The injury occurred during Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Wild. Krug logged 24:07 of ice time and picked up an assist in the match. He has six points, including two goals, in 11 contests. The Bruins' back end continues to take a beating with the loss of Krug. Boston was already missing Zdeno Chara and Kevan Miller.

Vladimir Tarasenko dominated the Stars in Tuesday's contest as he recorded three goals and an assist in the 4-3 overtime victory.

The young Russian seems to be taking the leap in front of our eyes and has now amassed nine points in eight games so far this season. Jori Lehtera also enjoyed a great game as he scored a goal and handed out two assists in the victory.
Oct 29 - 3:11 AM

Anaheim goaltender John Gibson was superb on Tuesday as he turned away 38 shots en route to a 1-0 shutout victory over Chicago.

Gibson very clearly has maintained a role with this Ducks teams despite Frederik Andersen's early season heroics and should be rostered in all formats. The win raises Gibson's record to 2-1-0 on the year and improves his GAA and save percentage to 2.33 and .926, respectively.
