Ryan Kesler (lower body) won't play in Saturday's game against the Minnesota Wild.

Kesler clearly hasn't been himself on the ice, so the Ducks have decided to shut him down for this game. He has six goals and two assists in 22 games this season. Kesler is considered day-to-day for now.

Mike Smith skated before his teammates practiced on Saturday.

That's a good sign considering it looked as if Smith sustained a rather serious groin injury last Sunday. It appears that the groin muscle strain is more on the mild side and that Smith may only need a week more to recover. Stay tuned for further updates.

Mike Green (upper body) won't play in Saturday's game against the Nashville Predators.

Green is considered day-to-day at this point. He has six goals and 29 points in 56 games this season. With the trade deadline approaching, the Wings need to get him healthy as soon as possible.
Feb 17 - 1:37 PM

Juuse Saros is expected to get the start in Saturday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

He was in the starter's crease during the morning skate, which would indicate that he'll be the one playing tonight. Saros has dropped each of his last three games (two in overtime). He has a 5-4-5 record with a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .924 save percentage this season.
Feb 17 - 12:35 PM

Brayden Schenn scored a power play goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars.

Schenn finally got the Blues on the board at the 18:46 mark of the third period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Obviously, that's as close as the Blues would come to tying the game. The 26-year-old now has 24 goals and 55 points in 60 games this season. eight of his 24 goals have been scored on the man-advantage. Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko registered the assists on St. Louis' only goal.
Feb 16 - 11:16 PM

Mattias Janmark scored a goal in Friday's 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.

Janmark's power play tally at the 2:42 mark of the second period gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at the time. After missing all of last season because of an injury, the Stars forward has put together a solid season in 2017-18. He's now up to 16 goals and 30 points in 58 games this year. Janmark has been a solid player for Dallas, but he shouldn't pop up on your fantasy radar. Stephen Johns ended up scoring the game-winning goal in the third frame.
Feb 16 - 11:14 PM

Thomas Greiss turned aside all 45 shots he faced in Friday's 3-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

10 of Greiss' saves came while the Islanders were shorthanded. The shutout was his first of the season. It's also the first time in five games that Greiss holds the opposition to less than four goals. The win improves the Islanders netminders record to 11-7-2 with a 3.84 goals-against-average and a .892 save percentage this season. His fantasy value is limited because Jaroslav Halak appears to be the starting goaltender in Brooklyn for now.
Feb 16 - 10:13 PM

Sean Couturier scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 2-1 overtime win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Couturier put an end to the game at the 1:52 mark of overtime to give the Flyers the victory. The 25-year-old now has seven points in his last five games. He now has 29 goals and 57 points in 57 games this season. Couturier has been one of the incredible surprises of the 2017-18 season so far. Wayne Simmonds scored the 20th goal of the season in Friday's victory over the Blue Jackets.
Feb 16 - 9:45 PM

The Calgary Flames have signed Mikael Backlund to a six-year contract extension worth a total of $32.1 million.

That comes out to an annual average value of $5.35 million. The 28-year-old has scored 20 goals in back-to-back seasons, but he's on pace to score 14 this year. He posted career highs in goals (22) and points (53) during the 2016-17 season. Backlund has 10 goals and 34 points in 58 games this season. He's a strong two-way player, but his upside in standard fantasy leagues is incredibly limited. "Me and my fiancée Frida, we’ve put our roots down here and it’s our home," Backlund said, according to beat reporter Wes Gilbertson. "We’re just so excited to stay here. I’ve been through some tough times here and some good times, and now I’m very excited because the team is only going to get better. The mission here is just to win. That’s what I like about the organization. All they want to do is just win that Cup and that’s what I’m very excited about it. I’m very looking forward to these years."
Feb 16 - 7:43 PM
