The union and league broke up talks today without scheduling another meeting.

Even if this comes as no surprise, it's also worth noting that the core economic issues were not discussed on Thursday. Under normal circumstances, the NHL season would have started today, but as it is the NHLPA and NHL don't appear to be close to agreeing on a new CBA.
