Matthew Stajan response to the owner's latest proposal was guarded.

The owners proposed a 50-50 split of hockey-related revenues on Tuesday. "I don’t think we should look too much on the surface," Stajan said. "Because when you break it down, yes, it’s 50-50, but 50-50 of what? I think it’s being portrayed a little more than it is at that moment. But it’s definitely encouraging as players to finally have an offer from the owners that probably should have been where they started at. But hopefully this will start something." Stajan's "50-50 of what" statement could be a reference to the earlier disagreements the owners and players had over what qualifies as hockey-related revenues. That might still end up being a sticking point as these negotiations heat up.
