Patrick Eaves is still getting headaches after being concussed over 11 months ago.

Eaves suffered the concussion on November 26 when he blocked a Roman Josi shot with his face, breaking his jaw in the process. He is skating with some of his teammates in the Detroit area but doesn't think he is close to being ready to return. "We talk (but) there's no set schedule (for a return)," Eaves said about meeting with the medical staff. "We try to get together at least once a week by phone, just to check in."

The Bruins removed the interim tag from Cassidy on Wednesday morning. He took over after Claude Julien was fired Feb. 7 and led the team to an 18-8-1 record to finish the season. Cassidy and the Bruins were eliminated in Round 1 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Joe Thornton (knee) is expected to be ready for the start of the 2017-18 season.

He had surgery Monday to repair two damaged ligaments in his knee. Thornton was hurt on April 2 and his torn ACL and MCL kept him out for the final three games of the regular season as well as the first two matches of the playoffs.

Patrice Bergeron said he played through a sports hernia in 2016-17.

Bergeron notched 21 goals and 53 points in 79 games this past campaign. He also added four points in six playoff appearances. Bergeron will use the off-season to recover, but he isn't sure if surgery will be required yet.

He has spent the past four seasons coaching Vancouver's AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets. Green has registered a 155-110-29 record in 304 minor-league games and he was behind the bench for Utica's Calder Cup Final appearance in 2015.

Mikael Granlund had been playing through a broken hand in the playoffs.

His recovery time is set for four-to-six weeks. Granlund had two assists in five games against St. Louis in the postseason. During the regular season, he broke out with 26 goals and 69 points in 81 matches.

Eric Staal sustained a concussion on Saturday against St. Louis when he crashed into the boards, but he is feeling better.

"It was scary. I feel fortunate with how it ended up, could've been worse," he said. "Lot of good help from everyone on the ice, trainers, doctors." Staal felt some numbness in his feet when he initially hit the boards, but the scans came back negative. He will use the summer to recover.

Erik Karlsson has revealed that he has been playing for nearly a month with two hairline fractures in his left heel.

Karlsson told ESPN that he played with the two fractures through all six games of the Senators' first-round series against the Boston Bruins. The Sens won the series in Boston Sunday. "This guy's a machine. That's what it is," Ottawa coach Guy Boucher said of the team's captain. "To be able to play that many minutes and be that good defensively and offensively, that's where he's at right now. He's at such a high level." Karlsson, who a finalist for the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman, reportedly sustained one of the injuries March 28 and the second in early April.

Marian Gaborik has undergone an unspecified procedure that will prevent him from being ready for training camp.

Gaborik will be entering the fourth season of his seven-year, $34,125,000 contract. The Kings were gambling when they signed Gaborik to a lengthy contract given his injury history and unfortunately it hasn't paid off for them. Gaborik has been limited to just 54 and 56 games in each of the last two campaigns and hasn't been productive offensively when he has played. Nevertheless Kings GM Rob Blake said Gaborik will get a clean slate when he's ready to return.

Joe Thornton was playing with a torn MCL and ACL in the playoffs.

"I've never seen a guy play with a torn MCL and ACL... It's a courageous effort as I've ever seen," Sharks coach Peter DeBoer. That's an understatement. It's amazing to think that Thornton was playing through that severe of an injury. Thornton had two assists and averaged 18:50 minutes in four postseason games, which is remarkable when you consider what he was working with. We have to wonder though if he'll be healthy enough to participate in training camp or if he might even miss a significant chunk of the 2017-18 campaign. Keep in mind that Thornton is also scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, so he might go unsigned this summer as teams wait to see how healthy the 37-year-old is come September.

Carey Price would like to sign an extension with the Montreal Canadiens.

"I want to stay here," Price said. "I know we'll figure out a way to make all the pieces fit and bring a championship here." Price is entering the final season of his six-year, $39 million contract, so he can sign an extension this summer. Locking him up will be critical for Montreal as the start netminder is the center of the team after winning the Vezina Trophy in 2015 and being a finalist again this season. The question is how big Price's cap hit will be. Henrik Lundqvist currently has the biggest cap hit of any goaltender at $8.5 million annually and Price can likely command more than that if he chooses to.
