Montreal prospect Blake Geoffrion will be out of action indefinitely due to a head and upper body injury sustained in Friday night's AHL contest between Hamilton and Syracuse.

He was clipped in the head by a skate and had to be taken to hospital where surgery was performed. The good news is that it appears Geoffrion will be OK. He will just not be playing hockey in the near future. Geoffrion is one of the Bulldogs' leading scorers with six points in 10 games.

Wayne Simmonds (groin) said on Thursday he's okay to play.

It remains to be seen if Simmonds will play on Thursday, especially after the Flyers summoned Matt Read from the minors. Perhaps Read was just brought in for insurance purposes though and will ultimately serve as a healthy scratch. Simmonds couldn't complete Tuesday's contest due to the ailment.

Jeff Carter's leg was cut by a skate during Wednesday's game and he's had surgery as a result.

Carter is out indefinitely, but beyond that we don't have a timetable for him. There was an earlier report that suggested that the skate cut caused tendon damage. He has three assists in six games this season. We wish him the best in his recovery.
Oct 19 - 3:21 PM

Zach Parise (undisclosed) will miss Friday and Saturday's contests.

Beyond that, there was no update on Parise's status. With him ruled out for the weekend though, he will miss at least the first six games of the Wild's campaign.
Oct 19 - 2:59 PM

Anton Forsberg is expected to start Thursday night.

Forsberg will be making his second start of the 2017-18 campaign. He stopped 39 of 43 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to Toronto on Oct. 9.
Oct 19 - 1:56 PM

Jeff Carter's injury is reportedly a cut that might have been deep enough to result in tendon damage.

Carter was hurt during Wednesday's game and left the contest early as a result. After the contest a team source said he was "going to be a little while." This all sounds pretty bad, but we'll wait for official word from the Kings.
Oct 19 - 1:11 PM

Patrice Bergeron (lower body) is a game-time decision on Thursday.

Bergeron has been absent for the Bruins' first five games due to the injury. Getting him back would naturally be a huge boost for Boston, especially given that they'll be missing Tuukka Rask (undisclosed) on Thursday.
Oct 19 - 12:22 PM

David Backes (diverticulitis) will be able to play on Thursday.

Backes wasn't able to play in Boston's first five regular season games. This will be his second season with Boston after he had 17 goals, 38 points, and 69 penalty minutes in 74 contests in 2016-17.
Oct 19 - 12:20 PM

Anton Khudobin will play between the pipes Thursday night.

Tuukka Rask is out with an undisclosed injury, so Khudobin is filling the void. It's not clear yet how serious Rask's injury is, so we consequently don't know how long Khudobin will be serving as the Bruins' de facto number one goaltender. Khudobin has a 1.52 GAA and .950 save percentage in two games this season.
Oct 19 - 12:18 PM

Tuukka Rask (undisclosed) will not be able to play on Thursday.

Rask was hurt during Wednesday's practice when Anders Bjork crashed into him. Rask had to be helped off the ice. It's still not clear how serious his injury is, but the Bruins will reevaluate his status later. In the meantime, Anton Khudobin will get the start while Zane McIntyre is being summoned to serve as the backup goaltender.
Oct 19 - 12:14 PM

Anders Nilsson will be the Canucks' starting goaltender on Thursday.

That's not surprising given that Nilsson posted a 32-save shutout on Tuesday. Jacob Markstrom has gotten off to a rough start this season, so there's an opportunity here for Nilsson to challenge for the starting job.
Oct 19 - 12:10 PM

Jeff Carter left Wednesday night's game against Montreal early because of a lower-body injury.

Carter logged just 6:55 of ice time before leaving the contest. Coach John Stevens said that Carter needed to be evaluated further and an update on his status could come Thursday. A team source said, "Going to be a little while" when mentioning the severity of the injury, which isn't an optimistic outlook. We will keep you posted when the Kings state something official on the matter.
