NHL has wiped out all games through Dec. 14 and the 2013 All-Star Game.

"The reality of losing more regular-season games as well as the 2013 NHL All-Star Weekend in Columbus is extremely disappointing," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. "We feel badly for NHL fans and particularly those in Columbus, and we intend to work closely with the Blue Jackets organization to return the NHL All-Star events to Columbus and their fans as quickly as possible." Hopefully this will be the last time we have to report on NHL cancelations, but the fact is that there isn't much time left before a Dec. 15 start date becomes unrealistic and the NHL and NHLPA haven't exactly wowed people with the pace of these negotiations.

Ondrej Palat (lower body) will play against New Jersey on Friday.

Palat missed four straight games due to the ailment. Tyler Johnson is questionable with a stomach virus though, so Palat's return might not correspond with a healthy player being moved off of one of Tampa Bay's top two lines. Palat has nine goals and 20 points in 30 games in 2014-15.
Dec 19 - 5:56 PM

Steve Mason won't play on Saturday or Sunday due to an upper-body injury.

The ailment is likely related to Mason's back. Flyers GM Ron Hextall said that the Flyers will provide an additional update on Monday. It seems reasonable to believe that Ray Emery will start in at least one, if not both, of Philadelphia's weekend games, but that's just speculation at this point.
Dec 19 - 5:10 PM

Mirco Mueller has been loaned to Team Switzerland for the World Juniors.

Mueller has spent six of San Jose's last nine games in the press box. This will give him a chance to get plenty of minutes against the world's top talent in his age bracket.
Dec 19 - 2:29 PM

Derick Brassard (mumps) is projected to play on Saturday.

Brassard will take part in the Saturday morning skate before a final determination is made though. If Brassard is available, he will be on a line with Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello, which means J.T. Miller will be playing a reduced role.
Dec 19 - 2:23 PM

Max Pacioretty (upper body) is day-to-day, according to Canadiens coach Michel Therrien.

Pacioretty was hospitalized after he was knocked into the boards by Anaheim's Clayton Stoner. Obviously with him being listed as day-to-day, there's still the chance that he'll be back in the near future, but it's hard to say unless more details are revealed. While he's sidelined, Michael Bournival is projected to take his spot on a line with Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher.
Dec 19 - 2:16 PM

Cameron Talbot has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $1.45 million extension for the 2015-16 campaign.

The Rangers are nearly tripling Talbot's current salary of $575,000 to prevent him from walking as an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's emerged as a great backup goaltender with a 2.34 GAA and .921 save percentage in seven games in 2013-14. He also posted a 1.64 GAA and .941 save percentage in 21 contests last season.
Dec 19 - 2:09 PM

Corey Crawford will start for the Blackhawks on Saturday.

Crawford hasn't played since Nov. 29 due to a lower-body injury. He has a 1.87 GAA and .929 save percentage in 18 contests. Now that he's healthy, he should get the lion's share of Chicago's starts, which will obviously hurt Antti Raanta's fantasy value.
Dec 19 - 1:12 PM

Steve Mason left Friday's practice due to an injury.

There was some speculation among the Flyers players that Mason might have had a back spasm, but there's been no confirmation of that. For now we can't say for certain that Mason will miss any playing time, but if he's not available on Saturday then Ray Emery will probably get the start.
Dec 19 - 1:10 PM

Johnny Boychuk (upper body) has been activated off of the injured reserve list.

Boychuk is expected to play on Friday after missing nine straight contests. He has two goals and 14 points in 21 games this season. With Boychuk and Travis Hamonic now healthy, Matt Donovan will probably be scratched Friday night.
Dec 19 - 12:19 PM

Olli Maatta, who was already dealing with a shoulder injury, has tested positive for the mumps.

Maatta wasn't believed to be close to returning to the Penguins' lineup, so this might not change a lot in terms of when he'll play next. Even still, it's hard not to feel for Maatta, who has gotten far more than his fair share of bad news this season. In addition to reinjuring his surgically-repaired shoulder and getting the mumps, he also had to have surgery to remove a cancerous growth on his thyroid gland.
Dec 19 - 11:22 AM

Keith Kinkaid will probably start for the New Jersey Devils on Friday.

It's a rare night off for Cory Schneider, who has already made 30 starts this season. Kinkaid is still searching for his first NHL victory after turning aside 31 of 33 shots in regulation in a 3-2 shootout loss on Monday. Cory Schneider should be back between the pipes on Saturday.
