The NHL will likely cancel all December games on Monday.

It was thought that this would happen Friday, but the NHL did not take any action in that regard. That said, the owners will likely pull the plug on another 500+ games after the weekend after last week's negotiations with the players ended with plenty of rancour.

Restricted free agent Tobias Rieder will not report to the Coyotes training camp without a new contract.

The point is currently moot as Rieder is in the World Cup final with Team Europe but it's probably fair to say that he and his agent, Darren Ferris are not at all happy with the Coyotes at this time. "We’ve made them a fair offer at two years at $2.5 million a year, and they’re unwilling to do it," Ferris said. "Tobi brings a lot of intangibles to that team. I know he’s a fan favorite. He loves Arizona, but it’s disappointing that they’re unwilling to compensate this kid fairly. But at the end of the day, we’re not far apart but they’re not willing to do it at all. I would doubt at this point that I could say that anything’s imminent in getting done." Rieder had 14 goals and 37 points last season and is in line for an equal season if he plays the full schedule.

With his overtime marker at just 3:43, Tomas Tatar sends Team Europe past Sweden and into the World Cup final against Canada.

It was Tatar's second tally of the game, in fact. Both were off of self-generated rebounds at the mouth of the crease. Tatar and the rest of Europe will take on Canada in the best-of-three series to take home the gold.

Per the Ottawa Senators, Clarke MacArthur has again been diagnosed with a concussion.

MacArthur missed all but four games due to a concussion in 2015-16, so this is no doubt terrible news for him and the team. Patrick Sieloff nailed MacArthur with a hit during a scrimmage, which instigated a fight between him and Bobby Ryan in response. Clearly this does not bode well for MacArthur, but nothing outside of the diagnosis has been give yet. More to come.

Jaroslav Halak will guard Team Europe's crease against Team Sweden in Sunday's semi-final.

Halak has turned away 95 of 111 combined shots as he played in all three of Europe's round robin games. He blanked USA, allowed two goals to the Czechs, and stopped 42 of 46 from the Canadians in his only loss. Suffice it to say if Europe can defend their zone well, then their Cinderella story has a real shot of continuing.

Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 42 shots in Russia's 5-3 loss to Team Canada in the semifinal of the World Cup of Hockey on Saturday night.

Bobrovsky simply did not get much help from the defense for most of the night as the majority of the play was at his end of the rink. By the end of the second period, he had faced twice as many shots as Canadian netminder Carey Price. He gave Russia a chance, as the game was tied 2-2 after two, but Canada poured it on in the third and scored three more times. Bobrovsky made his most dramatic stop less than a minute into the third when he grabbed a rocket by Brad Marchand with a sliding glove save. Unfortunately, Marchand scored less than 30 seconds later on a second shot and then four minutes, 32 seconds later Bobrovsky gave up the game-winning goal to Corey Perry.

Team Canada's Brad Marchand scored two goals in their 5-3 win over Team Russia at the World Cup of Hockey semifinal.

Canada overpowered Russia with 47 shots on goal to 34, but prior to the third period Canada had an almost two to one margin in shots. Marchand had what appeared to be the game winning goal with a dramatic score at the 1:16 minute mark of the second period. Russia’s goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made a sliding glove save over Marchand less than a minute into this period, but the Boston Bruin shooter would not be denied and scored less than 25 seconds later. That was the go ahead and game winning goal until the final seconds of play. With an empty net Marchand and Canada got greedy trying to give him the hat trick. They lost focus on the other end of the ice and allowed Russia’s Artemi Panarin to score with nine seconds remaining. Corey Perry earned the game winning goal with Sidney Crosby and John Tavares also getting a piece of the action with one goal apiece. Canada will meet the winner of Sunday’s Europe versus Sweden contest in a best-of-three finale.

Jacob Trouba has requested a trade out of Winnipeg.

This should not be terribly surprising as there have been trade rumors for a couple of seasons now. Still, this is not what Winnipeg wants to hear. The former ninth overall pick in 2012 has been a stud on the Jets' blueline for three seasons now. Trouba has made sure to note that his request is specifically about wanting to "play the right side", and is not a reflection of his feelings towards the Jets nor the city of Winnipeg. Still just 22-years-old, Trouba just concluded his ELC last season and is a restricted free agent. Stay tuned.

Russia will be without their Magic Man for Saturday's semi-final against Canada.

A tough blow for Russia, to say the least. Pavel Datsyuk is suffering a lower body injury but no word yet on the extent. It's unclear if he'll be able to play should Russia advance.
Sep 24 - 6:40 PM

Carey Price will tend Canada's net against Russia in Saturday's semi-final.

Price has turned away 63 of 65 shots faced through his two games of action in the round robin portion of the tournament. He also stopped 24 of 26 against Russia in the prelims. Canada has been utterly dominant thus far in the World Cup and Price is considered the best goalie in the world, so this one should be fun.

The Penguins have announced that Matt Murray will be out "three-to-six week" with a broken hand.

The injury came during Team North America's bout with Team Russia, which may help explain why he gave up four goals in a little over six minutes during the second period. Needless to say, Marc-Andre Fleury will enter the season as Pittsburgh's starter. Expect Murray to return between mid-October and early-November.

P.K. Subban will miss the start of training camp because of some general soreness.

"I've just been a little bit sore lately, so we're just going to take our time and make sure," Subban said. "I came in a couple days to skate early. Just a little bit sore, so we're going to see how I feel." This doesn't sound like a serious injury, so don't expect Subban to miss too much time. This shouldn't affect his draft position in standard fantasy leagues.
