Andrej Meszaros has continued to progress from his torn Achilles tendon and if the NHL can resume play in January then he might be ready for Philadelphia's opener.

"His next doctor's appointment is just after the New Year," Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said. "If we're going to start playing any time soon, I think he'd be ready to play." Meszaros underwent surgery back in August and he resumed skating in November.

Tomas Plekanec has come alive when the Canadiens needed him the most.

With injuries to top-line center Alex Galchenyuk and plug-in pivot David Desharnais, Plekanec has upped his production over the Habs' last three games. Including Saturday night's four-assist effort, Plekanec has registered six points in Montreal's last three contests and has a plus-five rating over that span. In addition, he has been deadly in the face-off circle, winning 10 of 13 draws against the hapless Avalanche Saturday night. If for some reason Plekanec is on your free agent wire, you should consider picking him up.

Jannik Hansen (ribs) is expected to be back in the Vancouver lineup Sunday.

Hansen suffered broken ribs on November 5 and will likely line up with the Sedin twins giving him plenty of fantasy value in upcoming games. Start him if you can. He had six points in 12 games before the injury but was not playing with the twins.

Drake Caggiula has been seeing playing time with Connor McDavid and Milan Lucic of late.

The trio should play together on Sunday as well and the move up the depth chart bodes well for his fantasy owners. He has a goal and five points in 12 games as he started the season injured, but the undrafted rookie from the University of North Dakota has made his presence felt at the NHL level since returning from a hip injury.
Dec 11 - 8:08 AM

Dougie Hamilton and the Calgary Flames continued their hot play of late in a 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.

Hamilton had a huge game on Saturday, generating two goals and one assist. He's now on a two-game streak of GWGs. He has netted four goals and one assist in his last four contests and he has amassed 24 SOG in his last five.
Dec 11 - 1:43 AM

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin scored two goals apiece as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 Saturday night.

Crosby now has 20 goals in 22 games. This is the fifth time this season that he scored two goals in a game, although he is still looking for his first hat trick. Crosby was shaken up on a play early in the match and returned with a vengeance to score a goal in his third straight game and to extend his point streak to seven consecutive contests. This was Malkin’s 12th goal of the season and the second time this season that he scored twice.
Dec 10 - 10:23 PM

Max Pacioretty scored four times as the Montreal Canadiens pummeled the Colorado Avalanche 10-1 Saturday night.

Pacioretty picked up the game-winning goal at just the 5:13 mark of the first period. He completed the hat trick late in the second and added his fourth in the third. Pacioretty's four goals vaulted him to 12 for the season and into the team lead for the Canadiens in front of injured center Alex Galchenyuk. He also posted an assist for a five-point performance.
Dec 10 - 10:10 PM

Marian Gaborik scored his first goal of the season during Saturday's 4-1 win over the Senators.

It's been a long time coming. Gaborik now has points in four of his last five games, which isn't surprising because he has four points in six total games played thus far.
Dec 10 - 9:37 PM

Shane Doan will go for his 400th career goal against the Predators on Saturday.

The Coyotes leader in nearly everything, needs just to ring the bell just once more to accomplish the feat. In doing so, he'll be the first member of the Coyotes/original-Jets franchise to crack the 400-goal plateau. Which is pretty amazing considering some guy name Dale Hawerchuk once played for them.
Dec 10 - 7:02 PM

Pekka Rinne will go for his 250th career win against the Coyotes on Saturday.

The veteran netminder comes in having posted a 15-6-2 record with a .928 save percentage and 48 goals against in 24 games. Considering Arizona will also be missing Max Domi, and Rinne seems set to make reach another personal milestone.

He did it again, Brayden Schenn collected his second career hat trick during Saturday's 4-2 win over the Stars.

All three markers came on the power play as well. He's now up to seven goals with six coming with the extra-man. Schenn is also now up to 13 power play points, with 19 overall.
Dec 10 - 4:42 PM

Jakub Voracek's torrid scoring streak continued during Saturday's 4-2 win over the Stars.

He collected his second straight four-point game, including his 11th goal of the season. He now has a four-game scoring streak to boot, collecting three goals and 10 points in that span as well. Voracek is up to 32 points on the season.
