The NHL and union aren't expected to engage in any CBA talks over the weekend.

The deadline to save the season is mid-January according to NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly. Despite that, talks have been dead lately. On the plus side, when they eventually pick up again, things could move quickly. Meanwhile the union overwhelmingly voted to enable the union to file a disclaimer of interest.

Rob Zepp made 25 saves on 28 shots in Philadelphia's 4-3 overtime win over Winnipeg.

The win was the first of his NHL career. Zepp made a big save on Jets' forward Mark Scheifele with the Flyers' trailing 3-1 in the second period. Philadelphia eventually scored three unanswered goals in the third period and overtime to win the game. Zepp is an interesting story. The 33-year-old is a nine-year veteran in Europe (Finland and Germany) but had never played a game at the NHL level before tonight. He will probably serve as Ray Emery's backup while Steve Mason (back) is out.
