The NHL is reportedly hoping to start the 2012-13 campaign by Jan. 19, provided of course that there's a new CBA in time.

To that end, the NHL has made its latest offer to the players. Among other things, they have moved on contract issues and kept Make Whole on the table. We're still waiting to see what the player's reaction might be, but it's worth noting that the NHL's reported timeline seems to allow for CBA negotiations to go on for nearly two more weeks before a deal is finalized.

Josh Bailey scored a hat trick in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Islanders found themselves down 3-0 heading into the second period, but they tied the game in the middle frame thanks to goals by Bailey (twice) and Casey Cizikas. Unfortunately for the Islanders, they couldn't jump ahead. On a positive note, Bailey managed to complete the hat trick in the third period. The Isles forward has been a pleasant surprise this season, as he has eight goals and 38 points in 32 games this season. He's currently riding a four-game point streak.
Dec 14 - 9:57 PM

Zach Werenski scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's 6-4 win over the New York Islanders.

Werenski opened the scoring at the 3:57 mark of the first period. He also registered the primary assist on Pierre-Luc Dubois' goal that gave the Jackets a 3-0 lead in the opening frame. The Islanders managed to tie the game at three in the second frame, but Columbus pulled away before the end of the period. Werenski finished the night with a minus-1 rating, five shots on goal and two hits in 24:11 of ice time. The 20-year-old is now up to 10 goals and 18 points in 32 games this season. He's on pace to an impressive 26 goals in 2017-18. He remains one of the best young blue liners in the NHL.
Dec 14 - 9:54 PM

Travis Sanheim scored his first NHL goal in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Sanheim tied the game at one just over four minutes into the first period before teammate Valtteri Filpulla scored the game-winning goal late in the second frame. The rookie blue liner finished the night with three shots on goal and one blocked shot in 14:23 of ice time. The 21-year-old now has five points in 28 games this season. He doesn't have any fantasy value in standard leagues this year, but he has some long-term potential in dynasty leagues.
Dec 14 - 9:38 PM

Ryan Callahan will return to the Lightning lineup on Thursday night after missing Tuesday's game with an undisclosed injury.

Callahan has a goal and six points in 28 games so far this season with Tampa Bay. He sat out Tuesday's game versus the Blues with an undisclosed injury.

Dec 14 - 9:15 PM

Kari Lehtonen will play between the pipes on Friday.

Lehtonen is making his third straight start and his sixth appearance in seven games. It's not too surprising though, given that he's allowed just three goals over his last two starts. He has a 5-4-1 record, 2.44 GAA, and .913 save percentage in 12 contests this season.
Dec 14 - 3:26 PM

Luca Sbisa is dealing with an unspecified injury.

Sbisa will miss Thursday's contest and is regarded as day-to-day beyond that. He has a goal and 10 points in 23 games this season. Jon Merrill will draw into the lineup as a result of his absence.
Dec 14 - 3:24 PM

Aaron Dell is expected to start for San Jose Thursday night versus Calgary.

Dell earned a 25-save shutout on Saturday against Ottawa. He's 5-3-1 with a 1.72 GAA and .939 save percentage in 11 contests this season.
Dec 14 - 12:53 PM

Matt Beleskey has been placed on waivers by the Boston Bruins.

Beleskey has frequently been a healthy scratch this season, so the news isn't terribly surprising. Even still, it does highlight how bad his five-year, $18 million contract has been. That deal doesn't expire until 2019-20, so unless the Bruins are able to unload him, he might be bought out this summer.
Dec 14 - 12:05 PM

Chris Neil has announced his retirement.

Neil is bringing an end to an NHL career that spanned 1,026 games, all of them with the Ottawa Senators. He was originally taken by Ottawa in the sixth round of the 1998 NHL Entry and made his debut with the Senators in 2001. By the end of his career, he had accumulated 112 goals, 250 points, and 2,522 penalty minutes. "Chris Neil exemplifies the best qualities of both our city and the Senators franchise," said Senators owner Eugene Melnyk. "His career personified grit, drive and resilience; there was never a day that he was not there for his teammates. Chris earned everything he achieved in the league through his hard work and dedication to the game and he will go down in history as one of the great character players to ever wear the Senators jersey."

Devan Dubnyk is listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Dubnyk was injured on Tuesday and the outlook does not appears to be good for Minnesota's top netminder. Alex Stalock will get a chance to carry the load in Dubnyk's absence.
Dec 14 - 11:02 AM

Matt Murray (lower body) will likely start for the Penguins on Thursday.

It would be Murray's first start since Nov. 27. He's already been activated off the injured reserve list.
