Dmitrij Jaskin collected three assists in a 4-3 overtime triumph over Switzerland on Monday to send the Czech Republic into a quarterfinal date with the United States.

His third helper of the contest set up San Jose prospect Tomas Hertl's game-winning goal just 1:39 into the extra frame.

Jonathan Drouin didn't practice on Saturday because of an upper-body injury and he's listed as day-to-day.

"This is by no means serious. ... He'll be back next week at some point," coach Jon Cooper said via the Lightning's Twitter account. He should see plenty of action in the preseason, as the Bolts get a feel of where to start him once the regular season begins. Drouin will have plenty of value if he can earn a spot alongside Steve Stamkos, but he started camp outside of the team's top-six group.

Jonathan Quick (wrist) practiced with his teammates on Friday.

However, his surgically-repaired wrist isn't quite 100 percent. Quick should be ready to go soon, as he's three days past 12 weeks from the surgery. The initial timetable for his recovery following the procedure was set at 10-12 weeks.

The Blackhawks' line of Brandon Saad, Patrick Kane and Brad Richards was flying in practice Friday and seems to be gelling very quickly.

This could be a devastating unit as the playmaking Richards is far superior to the aging Michal Handzus who often centered Kane and Saad last season. On Friday it looked as if the trio had played together for years by the way they were passing the puck around. It could be a big year for Kane and also for Saad, who will be looking to sign a long-term contract with the Hawks as his entry-level deal will expire in June.

Logan Couture's hand was fine as training camp began.

Couture underwent hand surgery on June 10 as he injured it in a fight with Mike Richards during Game 6 in the first round of the playoffs. He found himself centering Patrick Marleau and Matt Nieto during the opening day of training camp. Couture stated that his injured hand took a couple of months to heal. He should get 30 goals and 65-70 points this season and should be drafted in the middle rounds.

Claude Giroux is expected to miss all of the Flyers pre-season games at least after suffering a lower body injury on Friday.

Giroux was centering Brayden Schenn and Jakub Voracek when the injury occurred and he was replaced by Darroll Powe in the middle. It is expected that Schenn will move back to center with Giroux out. He is expected to miss two-four weeks so he will return before the start of the season if it is only two weeks and will miss a couple of weeks of the regular season if it's the latter. Look for Giroux to get 85-90 points if he plays a full season.

Griffin Reinhart has an excellent opportunity to make the opening night roster of the New York Islanders.

Reinhart was selected fourth overall in the 2012 Draft but was returned to the Edmonton Oil Kings after training camp last season and led the team to the Memorial Cup. He is more of a defensive defenseman and had only 34 points in 66 games for the Oil Kings last season so he is not expected to be a strong fantasy player. The Islanders have only a couple of veterans on the blueline and that gives Reinhart a big advantage going into training camp. Look for Reinhart to get 15-20 points this season in Long Island.

Mikael Backlund did not practice with the Flames on Friday as he suffered an abdominal strain a few weeks ago.

Do not expect to see Backlund on the ice when the Flames start their pre-season schedule on Sunday. "I just talked to my agent (Mark MacKay) the other day and he said he had this problem for a full year when he played, and I don't want to go through that," Backlund said. "It's important that I stay patient and don't rush anything so that when I get back to playing, I'm going to be healthy for the rest of the year and it's not going to bug me. I don't want that to happen. I want to take my time now instead of have setbacks later in the season." Backlund was the Flames top centerman last season but his future role is likely to be on the second line as Sean Monahan will eventually take over the role. Look for Backlund to pick up 15-20 goals and 40-45 points in 2014-15.

Los Angeles Kings head coach Darryl Sutter believes that Anze Kopitar doesn’t get enough recognition for his offensive game.

"He’s one of the best players in the league. I mean he’s led the playoffs in scoring," said Sutter. "It tells you what kind of player he is, and he doesn’t get much recognition for that." Kopitar registered 29 goals and 70 points in 82 games last season. The 27-year-old is an elite center and should be drafted fairly early in standard fantasy leagues.

San Jose Sharks head coach Todd McLellan reiterated that the team sees Brent Burns as a defenseman, not a forward.

Both Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau said they’d like to see Burns return to being a forward, but their head coach doesn’t seem to agree. "Brent was acquired to provide us with a long-term, quarterback offensive defenseman," said McLellan. "He’s an NHL all-star defenseman and he’s earned the right to be there in those types of situations." The Sharks lost Dan Boyle and Brad Stuart this off-season and leaving Burns on the blue line is probably the right decision. The 29-year-old registered 22 goals and 48 points in 69 games primarily as a forward last season.

Rene Bourque is hoping to build off the success he had in last year’s Stanley Cup playoffs.

Bourque struggled during the regular season, registering only 9 goals and 16 points in 63 games. He caught fire in the playoffs however, scoring 8 goals and 11 points in just 17 games. "I want to be ready for the season-opener on October 8th, obviously. I want to be in the best shape that I can be," said Bourque. "I’m going to work as hard as I can the next couple of weeks and prepare myself as much as I can."

Ryan Murray did not practice with his teammates on the first day of Blue Jackets training camp because he’s still rehabbing a knee injury.

Murray was supposed to practice with the afternoon group of players on Friday, but never hit the ice. Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen said Murray’s absence was just part of his rehab schedule. "This is part of his rehab process, and he’s not going to skate everyday" said Kekalainen. "So, today was just one of those days where he’s not going to skate." The Jackets are counting on the former second overall pick in 2012 to be a key part of their defense this season.
