The NHL delivered a comprehensive counter-proposal to the NHL Players' Association on Tuesday night as the sides pushed to reach an agreement that would save the season.

NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr said the union would review the document during the night and likely would return to the bargaining table at some point on Wednesday. "We spent half an hour or so with the owners' committee," Fehr said. "They did make a comprehensive response to what we gave them (Monday). We asked a couple of questions, now what we have to do is go through the document, try to make some sense out of it, compare it and see what the appropriate thing is to do next. And that's what we're going to do. We're going to start tonight. We'll continue in the morning, we'll be in touch with them in the morning. There's really not anything else that can be said at this point." Fehr wouldn't be specific about what was being negotiated. The talks are being held with an eye on preserving at least a 48-game schedule -- the same number that was played following the 1994-95 lockout. An agreement would need to be in place by Jan. 11 for that to happen.

Mika Zibanejad (leg) has been taken off the injured reserve list.

That's not surprising given that Zibanejad declared himself good to play on Tuesday, but it does make his return all-but certain. The Rangers created a roster spot for him by sending Marek Hrivik to the minors.
Jan 16 - 3:03 PM

Michael Hutchinson will play between the pipes on Monday.

Hutchinson is playing in his fourth straight game. He has a 3.18 GAA and .896 save percentage in 19 games.
Jan 16 - 2:04 PM

The Rangers expect Antti Raanta (lower body) to be out for 7-10 days.

The Rangers have summoned Magnus Hellberg to serve in the backup role in the meantime. Raanta has a 2.24 GAA and .923 save percentage in 17 games this season.
Jan 16 - 12:56 PM

John Carlson (lower body) isn't available on Monday.

Carlson left Sunday's contest due to the injury. He has five goals and 25 points in 43 contests in 2016-17.
Jan 16 - 12:11 PM

Look for Matt Murray to start on Monday.

That's based on the fact that Murray was the first goalie off the ice following the morning skate. He has a 2.28 GAA and .925 save percentage in 20 contests this season.
Jan 16 - 12:09 PM

The Penguins regard Kris Letang (knee) as being out week-to-week.

As previously reported, Letang has been put on the injured reserve list. He has four goals and 23 points in 30 games this season. He's a superb offensive defenseman, but unfortunately he also has a long history of injuries.
Jan 16 - 12:01 PM

Ryan Callahan (hip) will be sidelined for at least another four weeks.

At this point the question isn't just about when Callahan will return, but if he'll be back at all this season. Callahan had surgery on his hip in June and has been limited to just 18 games in 2016-17 due to ongoing issues with it. If there doesn't appear to be much progress in the next few weeks, it's possible that Tampa Bay will put him on the long-term injured reserve list, shutting him down and potentially using the saved cap space during the trade deadline.
Jan 16 - 11:51 AM

Robin Lehner (flu) will play between the pipes on Monday.

Lehner didn't participate in Buffalo's previous three games. He has a 2.53 GAA and .921 save percentage in 27 contests this season.
Jan 16 - 11:19 AM

Tyler Ennis (groin) is returning to the Sabres' lineup on Monday.

Ennis is projected to play alongside Kyle Okposo and Ryan O'Reilly. This will be his first game since Nov. 7. He has a goal and two points in 12 games this season, but is capable of much more than those numbers suggest going forward.
Jan 16 - 11:18 AM

The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed Kris Letang (knee) on the injured reserve list.

Letang was injured on Saturday and the Penguins thought it serious enough that he will be down for a least a week so they reserved him. He has 23 points in 30 games but he seems to be prone to injuries in the last few seasons and that takes away from his immense fantasy value.
Jan 16 - 10:18 AM

GM Dean Lombardi said that there was no update on the status of Jonathan Quick who injured his groin on opening night.

Lombardi said that he was still a 'long way off'. If all goes according to schedule, Quick is anticipated to return by mid-February to the beginning of March barring any setbacks and that is always a possibility.
