The NHLPA submitted another counter-proposal to the league on Wednesday and the two sides are expected to resume talks at around 8:00 p.m. ET in New York.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the NHLPA wants the NHL to share the pension cost and there are still some issues that need to be sorted out with the matter. The union and the league have gone back and forth with proposals over the past few days in a last-ditch effort to save the 2012-13 season.

Brandon Sutter has undergone jaw surgery and will need six-to-eight weeks to recover.

That puts Sutter's return before the end of the regular season into doubt. Sutter was playing a prominent role for the team, logging big minutes in both shorthanded and power-play situations. Now that Sutter, as well as Alexander Edler, are dealing with long-term injuries, Vancouver faces a monumental task in its battle for a playoff spot. Given the projected length of Sutter's absence, he has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Alexander Edler is expected to miss the next six weeks with a fibula fracture.

That means Edler shouldn't be expected to play again until late March. Vancouver is still in the running for a playoff spot and its job has just gotten a lot tougher. Edler leads the team in total ice time thus far and he was averaging 24:27 minutes per contest. He also has six goals and 20 points in 52 games this season. It shouldn't come as any surprise that the team's website is also listing Edler as being on the injured reserve list.

Buffalo will go with Chad Johnson between the pipes on Friday.

Johnson will be going for his first win since Jan. 18, although to be fair, he's only appeared in three contests since that victory. He has a 2.44 GAA and .918 save percentage in 31 contests this season, but Robin Lehner is heavily eating into his playing time.
Feb 12 - 2:11 PM

Artemi Panarin (illness) was able to do off-ice workouts on Friday.

Chicago is hoping that Panarin will play on Saturday, which feels like a more optimistic outlook compared to what was being presented on Thursday. Panarin has missed two straight games.

Carey Price (lower body) is unlikely to play again this season, according to La Presse.

La Presse suggests that Price's injury is a Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) and while the Canadiens aren't optimistic about his outlook for the remainder of the regular season, they don't want to admit that publicly. The reason why Montreal is hesitant to suggest that Price's chances of return are all-but gone is for marketing reasons, according to La Presse. In response, Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said, "Carey is working out extremely hard in the gym. He's not doing that to maintain his beach body."

Peter Budaj will probably play between the pipes on Friday.

Budaj was the first goalie off the ice following the morning skate, which is usually a good indicator of who will get the start. He was called up on an emergency basis because Jonathan Quick is dealing with an undisclosed injury. Budaj hasn't played for Los Angeles yet this season, but he had a 1.58 GAA and .935 save percentage in the minors.

Antti Raanta was the first goaltender off the ice following the Rangers' morning skate.

That probably means he'll be the starter for New York Friday night. Raanta, who hasn't played since Jan. 17, has a 2.30 GAA and .909 save percentage in 12 games this season.

Don't call it a comeback for Logan Couture.

Couture picked up four points, including a goal, during Thursday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Flames. Since returning from injury back on Dec. 30th, a span of 18 games, he's picked up 15 of his 17 points with all five goals.
Feb 12 - 2:09 AM

Jonas Hiller stoned the Sharks in Thursday's stellar sudden late relief effort.

Hiller relieved the injured Karri Ramo with just three minutes to go in a 5-5 tie, and was perfect through his eight minutes of work. He turned away all eight shots faced, including five while on the kill and then three of four in the shootout for the victory. The incredible effort lifted Hiller's record to 8-5-1 on the season in 17 games.
Feb 12 - 1:36 AM

Connor McDavid put on a show during Thursday's 5-2 win over his hometown Maple Leafs.

McDavid's previous high water mark of points in a single game was three, which he's accomplished twice already. The second time last week. Tonight McDavid popped a pair and assisted on Edmonton's other three for his second two-goal game and new high mark of five points in a game. He's now up to nine goals and 24 points in just 19 games.
Feb 12 - 12:07 AM

Finally, after 17 previous two-goal games Jordan Eberle picked up his first career hat trick in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

This is Eberle's third game of at least two goals this season, each coming with the turn of the calendar. Including the assist he also picked up, Eberle is up to 18 goals and 32 points on the season.
