Ilya Kovalchuk's future with the New Jersey Devils and the NHL has come into question with rumors swirling that he might choose to remain in Russia with the KHL.

He suited up for SKA St. Petersburg on Tuesday and had an assist in the team's 3-1 loss to Ak Bars Kazan, while Vladimir Tarsenko and Sergei Bobrovsky departed for North America. Slava Malamud, who is a U.S.-based correspondent for Russian sports daily Sport-Express, reported Kovalchuk said, "I will need to read the new agreement" before he decides what's next. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Monday that he had not spoken to Kovalchuk since the wheels were put into motion to officially end the lockout, but he didn't have any reason to believe that Kovalchuk wouldn't be back once everything is finalized. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said that the KHL has confirmed that it will honor its agreement not to poach players under NHL contracts. "I'm not inclined to treat this as a 'problem' unless or until it's a 'problem'," Daly said. "It's not and I don't expect it to be." We would expect Kovalchuk to be back with the Devils, but it's a curious situation.

Pekka Rinne blocked 26 of 28 shots in a 7-2 win against San Jose Saturday night.

Five was the operative number Saturday night. Rinne won his fifth game in a row by denying the Sharks all but two goals in the second period to give the Preds a five-point differential in his 500th start. He had two perfect periods of play giving his team the chance to run up the score. His save percentage for the night was .929 slightly higher than his season average entering the game of .916.

Braden Holtby blocked 28 of 29 shots in a 4-1 win against Arizona Saturday night.

Holtby extended his win streak to four games while allowing only one goal in the third. He was perfect for the first two periods of play. Peter Holland scored 12:29 minutes into the third to tie the game. The Capitals netminder stood firm the rest of the period while his teammates combined to score three additional goals and win.
Mar 26 - 1:20 AM

The Los Angeles Kings fired plenty of pucks at Antti Raanta, but he couldn't be beaten as the New York Rangers won 3-0 on Saturday.

Raanta made 30 saves for his fourth shutout of 2016-17. He bumps his record to 16-8-2 on the season. He continues to build a case that he's one of the best options in net among NHL backups.
Mar 26 - 1:11 AM

Eddie Lack gave up only one goal on 27 shots Saturday night as the Hurricanes beat the Devils 3-1.

Lack has done an admirable job as a backup. In his current four-game winning streak, he has recorded a worst save percentage of.931. He lost a 3-1 contest to the Avalanche March 7, but even then he had a respectable percentage of .917 and that came on the heels of a .962 win over the Coyotes. Lack is a good option whenever he steps in front of the net.
Mar 26 - 12:59 AM

Robin Lehner faced 34 shots Saturday night and stopped all but two of them as the Sabres beat the Maple Leafs 5-2.

In both wins and losses, Lehner has been impressive. He is riding a six-game streak of games in which he has recorded a save percentage north of .900. Unfortunately, three of those six games resulted in losses.
Mar 26 - 12:21 AM

James Reimer blocked 25 shots in a 7-0 shutout of Chicago Saturday night.

Reimer had his first shutout of the season while facing 25 shots by the top-ranked team in the Western conference. This was Reimer’s second consecutive win after beating Arizona Thursday night. He needed this confidence booster as Reimer has a losing record of 4-6-1 so far for the month of March. This was the first time he recorded back-to-back wins since late February.
Mar 25 - 11:42 PM

With three seconds remaining in overtime, Sean Monahan scored the game winning goal in a 3-2 contest against the Blues.

Monahan also had an assist on the tying goal in the third to make him the clutch player of the game. This was his 25th goal and 27th assist of the year. He now has 12 multi-point games this season.
Mar 25 - 11:22 PM

Frederik Andersen left Saturday's game against Buffalo after the first period because of an upper-body injury.

The Leafs have already announced that he won't return. Curtis McElhinney is in the game in relief. This could be a devastating blow to Toronto's playoff hopes if Andersen's injury turns out to be a long-term issue.
Mar 25 - 8:40 PM

Mark Stone (lower body) will be back in the Senators' lineup Saturday.

Stone's return unfortunately corresponds with Viktor Stalberg leaving the lineup due to an upper-body injury. Stone has 22 goals and 50 points in 63 games this season. He missed seven straight contests.
Mar 25 - 5:28 PM

Patrick Sharp will undergo hip surgery on Tuesday.

Sharp has eight goals and 18 points in 48 games this season. The surgery will end Sharp's season, or at least keep him out for what little remains. This has been a very difficult season for Sharp, who had suffered two concussions and has played through his hip issue. On top of that, his father is battling leukemia. "It's been tough," Sharp said. "I knew it was going to be a challenging year with my father and what he has been going through. Looking back on the season, I probably could have handled my emotions a little better maybe."

Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside all 36 shots in a 1-0 victory against Philadelphia.

Bobrovsky earned his seventh shutout of the 2016-17 campaign. He's been red hot lately, allowing just three goals in his last four starts. He was already the NHL leader in GAA and save percentage going into this contest as he continues to make a strong case to win the Vezina Trophy for the second time.
