Tom Poti (groin) has returned to Washington after playing two games in the AHL.

Poti is looking to return to the NHL after missing more than two years. He used to be a pretty good offensive defenseman, but we can't recommend drafting him in standard leagues at this time.

Sidney Crosby scored twice to lead the Penguins to a 4-3 win against the Rangers in Game 2 of their first-round series Saturday night.

Crosby scored two goals in a row in the second period, at 14:07 and 18:46. The two markers surpass last season’s playoff total of one in 13 games. Crosby is still just as dangerous as ever, even if goal/point (28/84) were "down." Chris Kunitz (goal, two assists) and Brandon Sutter (goal, assist) registered the other goals. Pittsburgh killed off six of seven Rangers power plays in this game.

Sabres general manager Tim Murray said that he is "disappointed for our fans" in not landing the first-overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

That should make Jack Eichel, the Sabres' likely second-overall pick, feel great. The Sabres, the league’s worst team, basically pulled out every stop to guarantee the best chances at winning the draft lottery. But now they they will draft second. Eichel is a tremendous prospect in his own right, with the ability to hasten Buffalo's rebuild. He called Buffalo a "great hockey city" and that "it would be really nice to play there." He had 26 goals and 71 points at Boston University this season.

The Edmonton Oilers have have won the NHL Draft Lottery, likely meaning Connor McDavid will go there with the first-overall pick in June 26-27 draft.

Buffalo's season of tanking gave them the best odds (20 percent) at the top pick, but now they end up second and the likely home for Jack Eichel. Edmonton had an 11.5 percent chance at the top pick. McDavid is considered a generational prospect who can change a team’s course the day he is drafted. The 18-year-old registered 44 goals and 120 points in 47 games in the OHL this season. In his three seasons, he scored 97 goals and recorded 285 points. It's the fourth time in six years Edmonton will be picking first overall. Centers Ryan-Nugent Hopkins, Leon Draisaitl and McDavid could soon be the envy of the league.

The buzz is starting to get louder around Mike Milbury’s name as a coaching fit in Boston, according to HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman.

Of course, the first step is firing coach Claude Julien after the team missed the playoffs for the first time in eight years. Boston went 41-27-14 this season. Milbury is currently an analyst for NBC, and the 62-year-old has not coached since 1998-99, though he began his coaching career in the late 80s with the Bruins.

Justin Abdelkader (hand) is likely to return to the Red Wings lineup for Game 3, according to coach Mike Babcock.

Abdelkader has not played since April 4. The 28-year-old had 23 goals and 44 points during the regular season. Pay close attention to the Red Wings' practices leading up to Tuesday's game.

Petr Mrazek will remain the Red Wings’ starting goaltender, coach Mike Babcock said after Game 2.

Mrazek was yanked after the second period when he allowed four goals on 18 shots in the 5-1 Game 2 loss. The first-round series shifts to Detroit on Tuesday. Mark posted a 2.38 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage during the regular season, and he stopped 44 of 46 shots in Game 1.

The St. Louis Blues' 4-1 win against the Minnesota Wild in Game 2 represents the first playoff victory of goalie Jake Allen's NHL career.

Allen made 24 out of 25 stops as the Blues tied their first-round series at 1-1. Allen finished the season on fire, but with every game holding such importance, he needed a win like this to hold off Brian Elliott.

After failing to register a shot on goal in Game 1, Vladimir Tarasenko's first career playoff hat trick powered a 4-1 St. Louis Blues win against the Minnesota Wild in Game 2.

Tarasenko has four points so far in this series, as he had an assist in Game 1. The talented Russian had 37 goals in 2014-15, so don't be surprised if he has a big playoff run, especially with a contract on the line.

Tyler Johnson scored two big goals as the Tampa Bay Lightning tied their series against the Detroit Red Wings thanks to a 5-1 win.

The Lightning were rewarded in Game 2 after losing in Game 1 despite a lopsided shot differential. Johnson wasn't the only player to have a strong game, as Valtteri Filppula had a goal and an assist while both Steve Stamkos and Nikita Nesterov enjoyed two-helper afternoons.
Apr 18 - 5:44 PM

The Chicago Blackhawks will start Scott Darling instead of Corey Crawford for Game 3 against the Nashville Predators.

Many believe that it was a mistake for Joel Quenneville to go with Crawford over Darling in Game 2's 6-2 loss, especially after Darling's perfect relief appearance. Every playoff game probably qualifies for the biggest of the young goalie's career at this point.
