Richard Bachman has been sent down to the minors.

Bachman was expected to start the season as the Stars' number two netminder, but it looks like that won't be the case. He had a 2.77 GAA and .909 save percentage in 18 games last season.

Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said that it will be easier to re-sign Tuukka Rask after some playoff success.

Rask has every motivation to keep piling on the successes. Some think a Stanley Cup will only get him an Antti Niemi-type contract, but Rask has more on his resume. It could end up being an interesting negotiating session.

Doctors have cleared Sidney Crosby to get his jaw protector off.

He certainly hasn't been inhibited by it, as he's been very productive since coming back in the playoffs. It will be a challenge to score against Boston in particular, but now he'll be more comfortable.

The Los Angeles Kings are only a win away from advancing to the Western final but there are strong reasons to suggest that the win may not come tonight against the Sharks in San Jose.

The Kings haven't been able to score in San Jose. In fact, the defending champions haven't played well on the road during the playoffs at all this season. They are 1-4 outside the Staples Center, a big difference from last spring, when the Kings went 10-1 on the road en route to the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship. This year, they've scored more than one goal on the road only once in the playoffs, and that was during their 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 5 of their first-round series. Not surprisingly, that's the Kings' only road win in five tries. "We've got to find a way to score goals on the road," Kings leader Dustin Brown said. "That's about preparation and doing the right things. San Jose has a really hard building to play in, but that's not to say we can't do what we need to do to get more goals. That's about commitment, getting to the net, getting pucks to the net. At the end of the day, all of us, it's about will this time of year."

The Red Wings were completely outplayed in their 4-1 loss to the Blackhawks in Chicago Saturday night and veteran forward Daniel Cleary thinks his team will require a more disciplined approach to prevent the Hawks from coming back and taking this Western playoff series.

The Wings were ahead 3-1 in the best-of-seven set and, after Saturday, remain ahead 3-2. "We gift-wrapped a couple goals," said Cleary, who scored the Wings' lone goal. "We gotta be more disciplined. Look, they played better than us, played harder, played more determined. It's hard to match that when their backs are against the wall. We have to be ready to go Monday night as if our backs are against the wall, which I like to think they are. As a young team, we just have to tell them to play loose, not tentative or scared," Cleary said. "You can't be afraid of success. You gotta go out and take it. The Blackhawks flat-out just wanted to win more than us, and we have to have the same mentality."

Tuukka Rask kicked out 28 of 29 shots in a 3-1 victory on Saturday.

Rask allowed the first goal of the game on a Rangers' power play, but was otherwise flawless. He now has a 2.22 GAA and .928 save percentage in 12 starts in the playoffs. The Boston Bruins will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference finals and Rask will have his work cut out for him. He had a 2.54 GAA and .881 save percentage in two regular season games against the Penguins and the Bruins lost both contests.

The Penguins' James Neal is on fire at the moment.

In the Pens' last five periods of playoff hockey the talented winger has four goals and six points. Not that's production!

Ranger coach John Tortorella's line shuffle in the third period of Game 4 Thursday night was a boon to center Derick Brassard.

Tortorella moved Brassard between Carl Hagelin and Ryan Callahan while shifting Derek Stepan between Chris Kreider and Rick Nash. The effect of this shuffle was that Zdeno Chara played when the Stepan line was on the ice giving Brassard and his unit a little more room without the 6'7" defender in their way. It will be interesting to see if Tortorella can continue to ice this alignment without the last change in Boston Saturday night.

The Boston power play has been much improved since the promotion of Torey Krug.

Against the Rangers in the second round the Bruins are 3 for 9 with the man advantage and Krug has scored two of those goals. "I think that we’re just not passing up those good opportunities," Krug said. "You’d see sometimes in the past we’d be passing the puck and we’d want to make that extra pass. But this time, we’re shooting pucks, we’re getting pucks to the net and guys are taking away Henrik (Lundqvist)’s ice." If Krug is available in your playoff pool and you have the ability to make roster changes you may want to consider picking him up.

Dennis Seidenberg (lower-body injury) will consult with the Bruins' training staff to determine if he can suit up for Game 5 Saturday afternoon.

He should be considered a game-time decision. Seidenberg has yet to play in the second round.

James Neal notched a hat trick to help the Penguins advance to the Eastern Conference final with a 6-2 win over the Senators on Friday night.

Beyond the 4-1 series win, the best sign for the Penguins is that their sniper has found his mark of late, recording five of his six playoff goals over the past two games. Neal also added an assist as the Penguins proved to be too talented and far too deep for the Senators to contend with. After missing Game 4 because of an undisclosed injury, Brenden Morrow returned and scored the game's first goal early in the first period. Kris Letang potted a goal and had two assists, while Evgeni Malkin got a marker and a helper. Rest might be the only thing that could slow this team down as the dangerous Penguins have now scored 13 goals over their last two tilts.

Eric Staal (knee) "hopes" to ride on the stationary bike by next week, according to Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford.

Staal suffered a third-degree, right-knee sprain of his MCL as the result of a knee-on-knee collision at the IIHF World Championships. He's expected to need three months to rehab the injury, and this is a very good first sign that he's feeling better.
