Matt Frattin has been returned to the AHL Toronto Marlies.

Frattin has nine goals and 16 points in 20 AHL games this season. Leafs coach Randy Carlyle expressed concerns Frattin's recent production in the minors, but he's still probably one of the first players the Leafs will turn to when they need to replace an injured forward.

Mark Giordano is taking warm-ups on Long Island on Friday night, indicating that he may play against the Islanders.

Well, this is a stunning turn of events if there ever was one. Players don't tend to take warm-ups if they're not intending to play, so take this as a positive sign. Giordano leads all defenders with 48 points and is a must-play in all formats.

Look for Frederik Andersen (neck) to serve as Anaheim's backup goaltender on Friday.

The Ducks have sent Jason LaBarbera to the minors, which they presumably wouldn't have done unless Andersen was ready to dress. John Gibson has already been tapped to serve as the starter on Friday, but Andersen will probably play between the pipes on Sunday.
Feb 27 - 12:57 PM

Tuukka Rask is dealing with an illness.

Rask stayed in his hotel room Friday morning as a result. At this time it's not clear if he'll be available for Friday's game against New Jersey.
Feb 27 - 12:26 PM

Stephane Veilleux has been placed on waivers by the Minnesota Wild.

Veilleux has a goal and an assist in 12 games this season. The 33-year-old is a veteran of 506 NHL contests. He only comes with a $575,000 annual cap hit, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him claimed.
Feb 27 - 12:24 PM

Mark Giordano (undisclosed) won't play on Friday.

The severity of Giordano's injury, which he sustained on Wednesday, still hasn't been revealed. He leads all defensemen with 48 points in 61 games this season. With Giordano unavailable, Corey Potter will probably make his NHL season debut on the Flames' third defensive pairing. The Flames might end up dressing seven defensemen, which would mean that Tyler Wotherspoon would play as well.

Andrew Hammond stopped all 35 shots the LA Kings sent his way in Ottawa's 1-0 victory on Thursday night. It was his fourth win in four starts, and his second consecutive shutout.

Quick, when was the last time Hammond gave up a goal? If you said 7:38 of the first period to Aleksander Barkov, you'd be right. Hammond has now stopped his last 77 shots spread over 172:22. Not too shabby for the 27 year old netminder making the most of his golden opportunity.
Feb 27 - 1:26 AM

Corey Crawford coasted to an easy 20-save shutout over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night as the Hawks kicked off their first half of a back-to-back in the Sunshine State.

Crawford overcame a string of three straight losses, the last two in which he allowed four goals apiece. The veteran improves to 24-14-4 on the season with a .919 save percentage and 2.30 goals against average. It was his second shutout of the season. Scott Darling is the likely candidate to start on Friday night in Tampa Bay, unless Coach Q wants to keep the hot hand rolling on short rest.
Feb 26 - 11:36 PM

Carey Price allowed just two goals on 27 shots to claim his third straight victory, a 5-2 win over Columbus.

Price has gone 8-0-1 in his past nine games and has not allowed more than two goals in that span. Since a three game losing streak at the beginning of December, Price has gone 21-3-2 and has been the best goaltender in the league. In total, the 27-year-old is 35-11-3 with a .935 save percentage and 1.92 goals against average.
Feb 26 - 11:15 PM

Cam Talbot stopped 37 of 40 shots on Thursday night to help the Rangers overcome a two-goal deficit and beat the Coyotes 4-3, moving them into first place in the Metropolitan Division.

Chris Kreider and Lee Stempniak each had two goals for New York, who fell behind 3-1 in the first period. The team regrouped to tie the score in the second, and Kreider scored the winner with just under three minutes remaining in the third. Talbot won his third straight game, improving his record to 8-1-2 since starter Henrik Lundqvist went down. In total, Talbot is 12-5-3 with a .915 save percentage and 2.49 goals against average.
Feb 26 - 11:01 PM

David Clarkson has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Nathan Horton.

There was reportedly no salary retained by the Leafs in the deal. Clarkson's homecoming to Toronto didn't go well. He produced 15 goals and 26 points in 118 games with the Maple Leafs.
Feb 26 - 6:27 PM

Sean Bergenheim will play his first game with the Wild Thursday.

He took to the ice with Mikko Koivu and Thomas Vanek at the morning skate. It's a good opportunity for Bergenheim, who hasn't played since Feb. 12, to make a positive first impression. He sat frequently as a healthy scratch before Florida traded him to Minnesota.
