Marcus Foligno will start the season on Buffalo's second line alongside Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford.

Foligno has been on quite a roll. He was superlative in a 14-game trial with Buffalo last season registering 13 points. He was equally impressive with Rochester of the AHL this season registering 27 points in 33 games. If Foligno can stick on the Sabres' second unit, he could be a nice sleeper pick. By the way, the team's first line will feature Thomas Vanek, Cody Hodgson and Jason Pomminville.

Drew Stafford has been suspended for one game for a high-sticking incident against Colorado defeneman Nick Holden.

Stafford clipped Holden during the second period and earned four minutes in the penalty box. He won't be in the lineup against St. Louis on Tuesday night, but he will be able to return on Thursday versus the Boston Bruins.

Dustin Byfuglien has inked a five-year contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets.

His new deal has an annual average value of $7.6 million. Byfuglien's name has come up in trade rumors, but this will take him off the table. He would've been eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer if something wasn't worked out with the Jets. Byfuglien has generated 15 goals, 32 points, 78 penalty minutes and 163 shots in 52 games this season.

Sidney Crosby has been awarded with the NHL's first star of the week for the period ending Feb. 7.

He produced five goals and eight points in three matches to extend his point streak to 10 consecutive contests. Crosby posted his ninth career hat trick against Ottawa in a 6-5 win and he added an assist in that match as well. He surpassed 900 career points in just his 677th game last week.

Jaden Schwartz isn't ready to return from an ankle yet, but he's hopeful to play during St. Louis' trip to Florida.

He won't be back on Tuesday when Winnipeg visits, but he could be in the lineup on Friday against the Panthers or Sunday versus Tampa Bay.

Alex Pietrangelo has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

He is scheduled to be re-evaluated in three weeks. Pietrangelo didn't practice on Monday after he left Saturday's game in the third period following a collision with Minnesota's Charlie Coyle.

He was the first netminder off the ice at the morning skate, so it looks like he'll get the nod against the Red Wings and Roberto Luongo will face Buffalo on Tuesday. Adjust your lineup accordingly.

Evgeni Malkin (lower body) will not be back in the lineup on Monday night against Anaheim.

Coach Mike Sullivan said that Malkin is listed as day-to-day. This will be the third straight game he has missed because of a "nagging" lower-body ailment.

Tyler Johnson appears to be getting his groove back.

"I feel good. I still think there is room for improvement, but I feel my body is feeling as good as it has all season," Johnson said. "I'm starting to get into the groove and starting to be able to play." He has looked more like his speedy self in two games following the All-Star break and he has collected two goals and two assists over those matches.

Ryan McDonagh won't play Monday night because of a concussion.

He suffered the injury on Saturday against Philadelphia and didn't practice on Monday morning as a result. A timetable for McDonagh's return is unclear at this time.

Malcolm Subban suffered a fractured larynx when he took a puck to the throat during warm-ups in Portland, ME on Saturday.

Per the Boston Bruins, "He [Subban] is in stable condition and will be sidelined indefinitely. The team will provide additional details when they become available." Subban was having another fine season with AHL Providence, sporting a 14-8-5 record with .911 save percentage and 2.46 GAA.
