Daniel Briere will have his wrist examined by a doctor Thursday and could return to the lineup Saturday against the Florida Panthers.

Briere sustained a hairline fracture of his left wrist while playing in Germany during the lockout and his absence has been noticeable through the Flyers' first two games. We'll consider him questionable for Saturday at this point. Fantasy owners will want to check back Thursday afternoon for an official diagnosis.

Jacob Trouba has requested a trade out of Winnipeg.

This should not be terribly surprising as there have been trade rumors for a couple of seasons now. Still, this is not what Winnipeg wants to hear. The former ninth overall pick in 2012 has been a stud on the Jets' blueline for three seasons now. Trouba has made sure to note that his request is specifically about wanting to "play the right side", and is not a reflection of his feelings towards the Jets nor the city of Winnipeg. Still just 22-years-old, Trouba just concluded his ELC last season and is a restricted free agent. Stay tuned.

Russia will be without their Magic Man for Saturday's semi-final against Canada.

A tough blow for Russia, to say the least. Pavel Datsyuk is suffering a lower body injury but no word yet on the extent. It's unclear if he'll be able to play should Russia advance.
Sep 24 - 6:40 PM

Carey Price will tend Canada's net against Russia in Saturday's semi-final.

Price has turned away 63 of 65 shots faced through his two games of action in the round robin portion of the tournament. He also stopped 24 of 26 against Russia in the pre-lims. Canada has been utterly dominant thus far in the World Cup and Price is considered the best goalie in the world, so this one should be fun.

The Penguins have announced that Matt Murray will be out "three-to-six week" with a broken hand.

The injury came during Team North America's bout with Team Russia, which may help explain why he gave up four goals in a little over six minutes during the second period. Needless to say, Marc-Andre Fleury will enter the season as Pittsburgh's starter. Expect Murray to return between mid-October and early-November.

P.K. Subban will miss the start of training camp because of some general soreness.

"I've just been a little bit sore lately, so we're just going to take our time and make sure," Subban said. "I came in a couple days to skate early. Just a little bit sore, so we're going to see how I feel." This doesn't sound like a serious injury, so don't expect Subban to miss too much time. This shouldn't affect his draft position in standard fantasy leagues.

Alexander Steen has agreed to a four-year, $23 million contract extension with the St. Louis Blues.

Steen still has one season left on his three-year, $17.4 million deal, so the Blues have secured him through 2020-21 with this new contract. With this deal Steen is taking a relatively minor annual pay cut of $50,000. "St. Louis has become home. I've been here eight years," Steen said. "I've gotten to know a lot of people within hockey and outside hockey here. We seem to be spending less and less time in Sweden to make sure we get our time in here as well. It's been an incredible journey and St. Louis is definitely somewhere I see as home now." He had 17 goals, 35 points, and 52 penalty minutes in 67 contests last season. He's currently recovering from a shoulder injury, but is expected to be fine for the season opener.

Scott Hartnell has reactivated his no-movement clause.

Hartnell agreed to waive it two months ago, but with training camp underway he contacted Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen to inform him that he would no longer accept a trade. "I put it to rest with Jarmo," Hartnell said. "I said I'm coming back and I'm not having this over my head during training camp and the first month of the season. I have a no-move for a reason, and it's there for me now. (Kekalainen) had the opportunity and trade me and things didn't work out." Hartnell is playing through a six-year, $28.5 million deal that will expire in 2019. He had 23 goals, 49 points, and 112 penalty minutes in 79 contests in 2015-16.

Freddie Hamilton has inked a two-year, $1.225 million deal with the Calgary Flames.

Hamilton is set to make $575,000 this season and $650,000 in 2017-18. The deal is one-way, so he won't take a pay cut even if he ends up in the minors. He had a goal and an assist in four contests with Calgary last season along with 18 goals and 43 points in 62 AHL games.

Tyler Seguin (heel) will be re-evaluated Tuesday or Wednesday when the team returns to Frisco.

He worked hard during the summer to recover from a partially severed Achilles tendon and a subsequent calf injury only to suffer a heel injury during an exhibition game for Canada at the World Cup of Hockey. "I want to be 100 percent before I come back, I know that," Seguin said when asked if he would be ready for the season opener. "Time is on our side."

Ryan McDonagh scored in Team USA's 4-3 loss to the Czech Republic on Thursday night.

What an embarrassing display of hockey for Team USA throughout this tournament. They exit the World Cup having scored just five goals and finishing with a 0-3 record. McDonagh finishes the tournament as his team's leading goal scorer (two goals), while big names like Patrick Kane, Max Pacioretty, Blake Wheeler, Zach Parise and Blake Wheeler didn't find the back of the net at all in the tournament. It's back to the drawing board for USA Hockey.

Mikhail Grabovski is still dealing with concussion symptoms.

Grabovski has only played in one game since Feb. 19 and now his status for the start of 2016-17 is also in doubt. At this time he's not cleared to skate.
