Simon Gagne has spent two of the Kings first three games in the press box.

Gagne had a minus-three rating in Los Angeles' season opener. We expect him to work his way back onto one of the Kings' top two lines eventually, but it's obviously troubling to see him in coach Darryl Sutter's doghouse this early into the season.

Mikkel Boedker has signed a four-year, $16 million contract with the San Jose Sharks.

Boedker had 17 goals and 51 points in 80 games between the Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche in 2015-16. Boedker is just 26 years old, so it's not unreasonable to expect more of the same out of him, which makes this look like a pretty good contract.

The Florida Panthers have officially signed Aaron Ekblad to an eight-year extension.

Florida didn't reveal the financial details of the deal, but if the previous reports are to be believed, then this contract is worth $60 million. "We are very excited to sign Aaron to a multi-year contract," said Panthers GM Tom Rowe. "He is an exceptionally skilled, intelligent and mature young player that is a difference maker for our team both on and off the ice. Aaron is an integral part of the foundation of our future and a cornerstone player who is continuing to develop into a true leader and one of the league’s elite defensemen." As we mentioned before, this contract is a gamble given how relatively inexperienced Ekblad still is, but there's no doubt that he has a ton of upside and he's already shown himself to be a great blueliner. This deal will be a huge headache if Ekblad struggles to live up to expectations, but it could also look like a shrewd move in a few years.

Matt Greene wasn't bought out by the Los Angeles Kings.

Greene was placed on waivers and it was believed that he would then be bought out if he cleared, but that ultimately wasn't the case. Perhaps the Kings were just keeping their options open and maybe Greene still won't end up starting the 2017-18 season with the team, but either way he's a member of their organization for now.
Jul 1 - 3:54 PM

Thomas Vanek has inked a one-year, $2.6 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Vanek had 18 goals and 43 points in 74 contests with the Minnesota Wild. That was a disappointment in the context of his old three-year, $19.5 million deal with Minnesota, but that level of performance wouldn't look out of place at the price Detroit is paying. So if Vanek maintains his recent level, that's fine, but if he bounces back then this will look like a steal for the Red Wings.
Jul 1 - 3:51 PM

Matt Martin has inked a four-year, $10 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Martin might not bring a lot to the table offensively, but when it comes to a willingness to play physically, he's among the top of the league. He had 365 hits in 2015-16, which was the NHL's best by a margin of 61. Don't be surprised if he and Auston Matthews end up starting the season on the third line together so that the promising youngster has someone on the ice tasked with defending him.

Kris Russell has decided to return to Calgary on a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old veteran rugged defender was sent to Dallas last season at the trade deadline for a hefty haul. It appears that the Flames will get their cake and eat it too. Details on the contract to come.

Roberto Luongo (hip) isn't expected to be healthy for the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

It's not clear how much time Luongo will miss, but that makes the signing of James Reimer all the more important. Luongo had been playing through the hip injury during the 2015-16 campaign, but kept quiet about it.
Jul 1 - 3:36 PM

Dallas has agreed to terms with Dan Hamhuis on a two-year contract.

His new deal has an AAV of $3.75 million. Hamhuis had three goals and 13 points in 58 games last season with Vancouver.
Jul 1 - 2:00 PM

Victor Hedman has signed an eight-year/$63 million contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It's a bit less than what Steven Stamkos signed for a couple of days ago as Steve Yzerman has locked up his top two players. Hedman is a top-five defenseman in the NHL and should go in the top-five rounds in most drafts as he has the capability to get 55-60 points.
Jul 1 - 1:35 PM

The New York Islanders have signed Jason Chimera to a two-year contract.

Chimera wanted to stay in Washington but when the Capitals failed to come to a deal with the veteran, he moved on to divisional rival, the Islanders. Chimera had 20 goals and 40 points last season so he has some fantasy value as he also can play on the power play. It's a great signing for the Islanders.
Jul 1 - 1:13 PM

Jake Allen has agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $17.4 million.

"I'm so excited to be a Blue for the next five years. This is where I want to be," Allen said. "This is the place that drafted me and made me the goalie I am today. I want to be a Blue forever and I'm looking forward to being able to stay here for the next five years. With the contract out of the way, now I can focus on hockey and worry about winning a championship." Allen will be Blues' number one netminder next season after Brian Elliott was traded at the 2016 NHL Draft.
