Alexander Steen's goal 26 seconds into the third overtime period gave the Blues a 4-3 win over Chicago in Game 1 of their first round playoff series Thursday night.

Steen knocked a nifty little pass from Steve Ott into the back of the net soon after the third extra frame began and sent the Blues fans home happy. Adam Cracknell, Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz also scored for St. Louis in the thrilling victory. If the rest of the series is as exciting as this game, it could lead to widespread heart attacks for fans of both teams.

Ondrej Palat (upper body) will be a game-time decision for Friday's contest against Montreal.

He left Game 1 because an undisclosed injury, which is believed to be to his upper-body region. The outstanding rookie logged 14:05 of ice time before exiting early in the third period.

Vladimir Tarasenko (hand) will suit up for the Blues on Thursday night against Chicago in their playoff opener.

He was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, here he skated with Vladimir Sobotka and Jaden Schwartz. Tarasenko hasn't played since Mar. 15 because of a hand injury, which required surgery to repair.

T.J. Oshie (upper body) won't play in Game 1 against Chicago on Thursday.

He missed the last two games of the regular season after receiving an illegal check to the head from Minnesota's Michael Rupp. Oshie has been skating with the Blues, but he hasn't been cleared for contact yet.

Ondrej Palat was forced to leave Tampa Bay's playoff opener in the third period with an undisclosed injury.

He was seen walking around the locker room after the team's overtime loss and there wasn't an update on his status. Palat had an upper-body injury at the end of the regular season after a hard hit made contact with his head and there may have been a re-injury there. It was also speculated during the game telecast that he might have been hurt when he banged knees with Montreal's P.K. Subban. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Brian Gibbons was moved up to the Penguins' top line during Wednesday's 4-3 victory over Columbus.

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma wanted to take advantage of Gibbons' speed, which suits the play of Chris Kunitz and Sidney Crosby. Gibbons didn't end up getting a point, but that will change if he stays on the first line.

Ryan Getzlaf left Wednesday's game late in the third period after being struck in the face by the puck.

"I just know he's (Getzlaf) getting stitched up right now," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau. "That's the only thing I've heard. I think he's going to be OK." Before getting hurt, Getzlaf scored a goal and an assist to lead Anaheim to a 4-3 victory over Dallas.

Whitney missed the Stars' last six regular season contests. Look for him to play alongside Shawn Horcoff and Alex Chiasson on the team's fourth line.
