David Rundblad returns to the AHL

David Rundblad has been sent down to the minors by the Phoenix Coyotes.

Rundblad has no points in three contests with Phoenix this season. He spent the last three games as a healthy scratch, so this move isn't surprising.

Flames were worried they couldn't sign Fox

According to Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving, the team had "strong concerns" that they were not going to be able to sign Adam Fox to a contract.

Fox was Calgary's third round selection from the 2016 draft who is currently playing for the University of Harvard. He's considered an offensive blueliner and will likely to play out his full four years of college hockey before heading to the pros. The Hurricanes must be confident they could get a deal done with the young prospect.

Report: Avs sign Grubauer for three years

The Colorado Avalanche have reportedly inked newly acquired goaltender Philipp Grubauer to a three year, $10 million contract.

Grubauer was sent to Colorado alongside Brooks Orpik for a second round pick in the 2018 Draft. The German netminder leads the NHL in five-on-five save percentage over the last two seasons, albeit in a small sample size. He'll battle with Semyon Varlamov who has struggled to remain healthy recently for the starting goaltending duties in Colorado.

Lindholm to play with Monahan and Gaudreau

According to Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters, Elias Lindholm is currently penciled into Calgary's first line.

Peters knows Lindholm well, coaching the Swede for the previous four seasons as the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes. Playing alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan will certainly boost Lindholm's fantasy value and we fully expect him to eclipse his career-high of 45 points set during the 2016-17 season.

Flames land Noah Hanifin from Hurricanes

The Calgary Flames have acquired Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm from the Carolina Hurricanes for Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland and Adam Fox.

Former Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters is now coaching in Calgary, so he clearly had some influence on this trade. Hanifin was the fifth overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, but he didn't develop into an impact blueliner as quickly as the 'Canes would've hoped. The 21-year-old still managed to put up a respectable 10 goals and 32 points in 79 games in his third NHL season. Hanifin is scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1, so Flames GM Brad Treliving will have to sign his new defenseman to a contract extension. This trade should help Hanifin take the next step in his career. He'll be surrounded by some quality defensemen like Mark Giordano, T.J. Brodie and Travis Hamonic.

'Canes acquire Dougie Hamilton from Flames

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired Dougie Hamilton, Micheal Ferland and Adam Fox from the Calgary Flames for Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm.

This is a significant deal for both sides. Hamilton was a key piece on Calgary's blue line last season, as he had 17 goals, 44 points and 64 penalty minutes in 82 games last season. The 25-year-old also averaged 21:32 of ice time in 2018-19. Hamilton has also been a steady point producer over his last four seasons. He's picked up between 42 and 50 points in each of his last four campaigns. This is the second time Hamilton has been traded in his career (he was moved from Boston to Calgary 2015). He'll continue to have a good amount of fantasy value heading into next season.

Ducks have exchanged offers with trio of RFAs

The Anaheim Ducks have exchanged offer with pending restricted free-agents Brandon Montour, Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase.

All three players are coming off their respective entry-level contracts. In his first full season in the NHL, Montour finished with nine goals and 32 points in 80 games while averaging 20:28 of ice time per game. His offensive game is expected to have more room for growth and he could be a sneaky good pick in fantasy drafts next season.

Rangers take goalie Olof Lindbom in Round 2

Olof Lindbom has been selected with the 39th pick by the New York Rangers in the 2018 NHL Draft.

The Rangers were the first team to take a goalie in the 2018 draft. New York is clearly looking for their goaltender of the future now that Henrik Lundqvist is past him prime. In six games at the under-18 World Junior Hockey Championship, Lindbom posted an impressive 1.66 goals-against-average and a .949 save percentage. He's a little under-sized by NHL standards (6-foot-1, 173 pounds), but he's quick and agile enough to get by. He's a few years away from suiting up in the NHL. He has the potential to develop into a number one goalie.

Kovalchuk agrees to 3-year deal with Kings

Ilya Kovalchuk has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Kovalchuk's deal, which will become official on July 1, is reportedly worth an annual average value of $6.25 million. Kovalchuk had a number of suitors including the Bruins, Sharks and Blues, but he ended up settling on a Los Angeles team that struggled to find the back of the net last season. The 35-year-old hasn't played in the NHL since the 2012-13 season when he was a member of the New Jersey Devils, but he's remained productive in the KHL. Kovalchuk had 31 goals and 63 points in 53 games with SKA St. Petersburg last year. The veteran winger will have the opportunity to be a top offensive option for the Kings starting next season. He will have fantasy value in all standard leagues.

Sabres select Mattias Samuelsson in Round 2

Mattias Samuelsson has been selected with the 32nd pick by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

The Sabres took defenseman Rasmus Dahlin with the first overall pick and they selected another defender with the top pick in Round 2. Samuelsson is a physical blueliner with good size (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) and strength, which means opponents need to keep their head up when they’re on the ice at the same time as him. The 18-year-old racked up 11 goals and 31 points in 58 games with the US Development Program last season, but those offensive totals are expected to come down as he continues to progress through higher levels of competition. Samuelsson is set to begin his collegiate career at the University of Western Michigan next season. His father, Kjell, played over 800 games in the NHL with the Rangers, Flyers, Penguins and Lightning.

Caps take Alexander Alexeyev with 31st pick

Alexander Alexeyev has been chosen with the 31st pick by the Washington Capitals in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Alexeyev has played two seasons in North America since being selected in the CHL Import Draft by the Red Deer Rebels. The Russian blueliner put up seven goals and 37 points in 45 games in the Western League in the regular season before adding five points in three postseason contests. The 18-year-old is a good skater, he’s a strong puck mover and he has good offensive instincts. He still needs a little more polish in the defensive zone, but that's something that might come with more experience. If all goes well with his development, he could turn into a good second-pairing defenseman.

Maple Leafs select Rasmus Sandin at 29

The Toronto Maple Leafs have selected defenseman Rasmus Sandin with the 29th pick of the 2018 Entry Draft.

The Swedish blueliner left home early in the 2017-18 season and made his way to Sault Ste. Marie where he had 12 goals and 45 points in 51 games. The solid defenseman showed flashes of offensive ability with some end-to-end rushes in the OHL as he has an extra gear, making him an above average rearguard. He is expected to go back to Sweden next season and play in the top division and that will certainly help him progress should the Maple Leafs decide they don't need him to play in the OHL. Despite his lack of height, he does not mind the rough going and does not get rattled in his own zone. Sandin will be a marginal fantasy player to start but could eventually be a nice three-four defenseman in deeper leagues.
