Cory Schneider will start Game 5 against Washington.

That shouldn't come as a surprise, as Schneider has been superb in his previous two starts in the playoffs. He has posted a 1-1 record with a 1.67 goals-against average and .951 save percentage against Tampa Bay. The Devils need a win to stay alive in the postseason.

Joe Thornton (knee) may not be ready to play in Game 1 of the second round against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Thornton has been skating with his teammates, but he apparently does not appear to be up to full speed yet. Against a fast and relentless checking team like the Golden Knights, Thornton may be at a disadvantage if he were to rejoin the San Jose lineup before he can skate at his maximum. There's still some time for that to change, though.

Sean Couturier was the star of the game for Philadelphia Friday night even if he is not fully recovered from a knee injury.

Couturier scored the winning goal in Game 5 with only 1:15 left in regulation to stave off elimination and keep the Flyers' season alive. He also spearheaded the Philly penalty kill that was a perfect five-for-five on the night. Of Couturier, Flyer captain Claude Giroux had the following to say: "I’ve got a lot of respect for that guy. He’s one of our leaders, and you can put him in any situation … and it’s impressive." Alhtough he is still dealing with some knee pain, Couturier should continue to produce no matter where he appears in the lineup.
Apr 21 - 11:11 AM

Andrew Hammond stopped 44 of 45 shots in Friday's 2-1 Game 5 win over the Nashville Predators.

This is shaping into one of the best stories of the year with Hammond stepping in for an injured Jonathan Bernier, who was replacing an injured Semyon Varlamov. Hammond made 20 saves in the final period to keep the Avs in the game long enough for them to come away with the victory. The 30-year-old netminder finished as the game's first star and he'll look to replicate that magic on Sunday in Game 6.
Apr 21 - 12:26 AM

Connor Hellebuyck turned aside all 30 shots he faced in a 5-0 win over Minnesota in Game 5 on Friday night.

Hellebuyck has shutouts in each of the past two outings since being lifted early in Game 3 after two periods. The Jets will face the winner of the Avalanche-Predators series in Round 2.

Claude Giroux opened the scoring in Game 5 on Friday night against Pittsburgh for his first goal of the series.

The 102-point scorer during the regular season had been nearly shut down offensively in the first four contests of the series, posting just one assist with a dismal minus-7 rating. He was paired with Valtteri Filppula and Jakub Voracek on the top line, as Sean Couturier was moved out, and the newly-formed trio accounted for two goals and five points to force a Game 6 back in Philadelphia.
Apr 20 - 9:52 PM
