With Jaroslav Halak activated from the IR, the St. Louis Blues decided to send Jake Allen back to the AHL.

It sounded like it would be either Halak or Allen on Monday after Brian Elliott had a rough Saturday, so this is a missed opportunity for the young netminder. In all likelihood, he'd see better chances for starts in future seasons, anyway.

Erik Gudbranson has signed a three-year contract extension with Vancouver.

Gudbranson's new deal will have an average annual value of $4 million. "Erik is an important part of our team and provides a physical element to our blueline," said GM Jim Benning in a statement. "His leadership qualities help us as we continue to integrate younger players in our lineup. He is a quality person, a great teammate, outstanding in the community and we are excited to have him as part of our team moving forward." Gudbranson has four points, 99 hits and 64 blocks in 41 games this season.

Boston has acquired Nick Holden from the New York Rangers in exchange for Rob O'Gara and a 2018 third-round pick.

Holden can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He has three goals and 12 points in 55 games this campaign. Holden will provide the Bruins with some additional depth on the back end. He posted career highs in 2016-17 with 11 goals and 34 points in 80 contests.

Alex Lyon will start for Philadelphia Tuesday versus Montreal.

Newly-acquired netminder Petr Mrazek practiced with the team in the morning and he will serve as the backup goaltender. He will probably start Thursday against Columbus. Lyon picked up his first NHL win Sunday when he entered the game in relief for an injured Michal Neuvirth.

Mike Green will not return from an upper-body injury on Tuesday night.

Green participated in the morning skate, but said afterward that he wouldn't play against Nashville. He is eyeing Thursday's match versus Buffalo for a return to the fold.

Wayne Simmonds will be out of action for 2-3 weeks because of an upper-body injury.

Simmonds had appeared in all 59 games this season, while recording 20 goals and 37 points. His injury explains why Philadelphia called up Oskar Lindblom from the minors on Monday night.
Feb 20 - 10:51 AM

Michal Neuvirth (lower body) will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks.

Neuvirth was injured on Feb. 18 against the New York Rangers. The Flyers acquired Petr Mrazek from Detroit on Monday night because Brian Elliott is also out with a long-term injury.
Feb 20 - 10:46 AM

Shea Weber (foot) remains on the sidelines and it's unclear if he will play before the end of the regular season.

Coach Claude Julien said that Weber isn't feeling comfortable yet with his rehab from a foot injury, so he has been shut down from skating again. The team won't put him back in the lineup until he is 100 percent and time is running out on the 2017-18 season. The veteran blueliner hasn't played since Dec. 16 and the Canadiens have 24 matches left on the schedule.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly interested in acquiring Michael Grabner from the New York Rangers.

The Penguins would seem to be a good fit for Grabner given his speed and scoring ability. His $1.65 million annual cap hit is also light enough that the Penguins shouldn't have an issue fitting him in. It might be that the Rangers will be reluctant to trade within their division, but given that the Rangers are now focused on the future, the return is expected to be their biggest concern. So at the end of the day, the big question is likely if the Penguins will be the top bidder for his services or not. If they are then it will be pretty exciting to see which line he ends up on.

Michal Neuvirth's lower-body injury will sideline him for the "long term," per Flyers GM Ron Hextall.

Neuvirth left Sunday's game due to the injury. With Brian Elliott also sidelined, the Flyers made the decision to acquire goaltender Petr Mrazek from Detroit on Monday. Given that we now know that both Neuvirth and Elliott won't be back for weeks, if at all for the rest of the regular season, it seems fair to assume that the Flyers will be leaning on Mrazek for a while.
Feb 20 - 5:27 AM

John Gibson stopped all 13 shots he faced in two periods at Vegas on Monday, but he was unable to return for the third period due to a lower-body injury.

Gibson was hit behind the net with about three seconds remaining in the second period by Reilly Smith of the Golden Knights. The team reported he would be doubtful to return, and Ryan Miller ended up preserving the 2-0 shutout with 20 saves in the final 20 minutes. For now, consider Gibson day to day.
Feb 20 - 12:58 AM

Viktor Arvidsson scored a pair of goals in Monday's 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Arvidsson gave the Predators a 2-0 lead at the 14:32 mark of the first period. He extended his team's advantage to 4-2 at the midway point of the second frame. He finished the game with a plus-2 rating, a game-high nine shots on goal and two takeaways in 18:43 of ice time. The two goals allowed Arvidsson to become the first Predators player to hit the 20-goal mark this season. He's up to 39 points in 56 games this season. He's accumulated 12 points in his last 13 games. Roman Josi, Ryan Ellis and Craig Smith also found the back of the net for Nashville in this one.
