John Mitchell is day-to-day with the flu.

Mitchell will not be available for Monday's game against the Phoenix Coyotes. He's been a pleasant surprise for the Avalanche this season with seven points in 10 games. Colorado is already playing without forwards Steve Downie and Gabe Landeskog due to injuries and they haven't been able to re-sign restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly. "You got to go out there and play the hand you're dealt. We're fine. We can't worry about who's not here, who's not in the lineup," Avs coach Joe Sacco said. "We have to focus on what we can control and that's the players that are available to us."

Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal and an assist in the 5-3 loss to Washington Wednesday night.

MacKinnon racked up two points to hit 50 and increase his lead over Matt Duchene to 13. The forward led his team in shots on goal with six in 20 minutes of ice time. Six shots are the most he has made in a single game in 28 contests since Colorado's loss to Los Angeles on January 31.

Jarome Iginla netted a goal and an assist in a much needed 4-1 win against Calgary Wednesday night.

Iginla has visited his old haunting grounds of Scotiabank Saddledome six times since leaving Calgary in 2012-13. He had not scored a point in any of visits back until tonight. Iginla scored an unassisted goal in the second period after having to sit out five minutes of the first period for a fight with Deryk Engelland. Iginla also connected with Marian Gaborik to assist on Jeff Carter’s third-period goal.

Artemi Panarin scored a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Panarin opened the scoring just 3:23 into the game and he also picked up an assist on Marcus Kruger's goal in the final minute of the frame. The 'Hawks forward finished the game with a plus-2 rating and four shots on goal in 16:16 of ice time. Panarin has 26 goals and 69 points in 77 games this season. Richard Panik, Marian Hossa and Tanner Kero also found the back of the net for Chicago.

Tyson Jost has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Colorado.

He'll join the team immediately and could play as early as Friday. It also won't burn the first year of the deal because Jost will play fewer than 10 games. The 19-year-old, who was drafted 10th overall in 2016, posted 16 goals and 35 points in 33 games with North Dakota in his freshman season.

Alex Stalock will start Thursday against Ottawa.

A message is being sent here to Wild netminders Devan Dubnyk and Darcy Kuemper, as they have both struggled this month. Stalock has 20 wins along with a .924 save percentage and a 2.31 GAA in 45 appearances with the Iowa Wild of the AHL this season.
Mar 29 - 6:08 PM

Louis Domingue will be in goal Wednesday against St. Louis.

He was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, so he is expected to start. Domingue has won each of his last three appearances, while posting a 2.27 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage.
Mar 29 - 2:18 PM

Zach Parise (upper body) is unlikely to play Thursday.

Coach Bruce Boudreau said that Parise can see, but he's bruised and sore. He may be ready to return this weekend, so it's not expected to be a long-term issue.
Mar 29 - 2:13 PM

Conor Sheary will probably return to the lineup on Wednesday night.

He felt like he would be ready to play after the morning skate. Coach Mike Sullivan classified Sheary as a game-time decision, but added that he was listed as probable to play against Chicago. It sounds like it's safe to activate him.
Mar 29 - 1:18 PM

Steven Stamkos (knee) isn't expected to play Thursday despite a very productive practice on Wednesday.

He called Wednesday's session his "best day yet," and added that it is "as close as I've been." Stamkos looked good skating and worked on the second power-play unit. Coach Jon Cooper upgraded Stamkos' status to day-to-day.

Joel Eriksson Ek is back with the Minnesota Wild.

He arrived Tuesday night after completing his season with Farjestad of the SHL. Eriksson Ek is slated to practice with the team on Wednesday. "He can give us a little shot in the arm," GM Chuck Fletcher said. "To add another body that can bring some energy will be a good thing. He was with us for training camp, he made our team, he spent several weeks here, he knows our system, he knows the coaches and players." He had two goals and five points in nine games at the NHL level earlier this season.
Mar 29 - 12:03 PM

Jonathan Bernier made 34 saves and let one puck get past him as the Ducks downed the Canucks 4-1 Tuesday.

Bernier has two shutouts so far, but this was his third-best save percentage of the season. He logged a .971 against the Sharks on March 18 and while that game was a virtual tie for Tuesday’s contest, he faced one fewer shot on goal. Bernier entered the night with a season-long save percentage of .917 and a GAA of 2.47. He improved both stats significantly with this win.
