Jaroslav Halak (groin) did not face any shots when he took to the ice for Wednesday morning's practice.

His groin injury was bothering him during warmups Monday, so he was pulled from the starter role and Brian Elliott faced the Los Angeles Kings instead. Halak is currently listed as day-to-day and he did not return to the team's injured reserve list, but that doesn't mean that he's close to playing again. This issue could be something that lingers for weeks.

Carolina has claimed Andrej Nestrasil off waivers from Detroit.

He is expected to join the Hurricanes on their current road trip. "Andrej is a young player with good size who we feel can contribute to our group of forwards," GM Ron Francis said. The Predators' backup goalie has played in just two games this season and his last appearance came on Nov. 4 against Winnipeg. Hutton has good peripherals, with a .935 save percentage and a 1.95 GAA, but he hasn't picked up a win yet this season.

Jack Johnson filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 7.

Johnson reportedly had given his parents power over his finances and they took advantage of the situation by taking out a series of loans against his contract and used it to purchase cars for themselves, a house, and other things. It got so bad that Johnson reportedly had more than $10 million in debt and had assets of less than $50,000. "I'd say I picked the wrong people who led me down the wrong path," Johnson said. "I've got people in place who are going to fix everything now. It's something I should have done a long time ago."

Backup goalie Cameron Talbot turned in a gem Wednesday night, sparking the New York Rangers to a 2-0 shutout victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.

Talbot's goals-against average improved to 2.70. His save percentage is now .908. The shutout was Talbot's first win of the season. It was his first shutout since a 26-save, 5-0 victory against the Edmonton Oilers on March 30, 2014. Talbot's record this season is 1-2-1. The Rangers, who will face the Buffalo Sabres on the road Friday, snapped a three-game losing streak. The Flyers now have lost three straight.
