Jonas Hiller (lower body) might return as early as this weekend.

Hiller participated in Wednesday's practice. "I’ll have to see how it feels later today if it starts tightening up again," he said. "I felt pretty good. I definitely hope I’ll be able to play on the weekend. At the same time, I don’t want to rush it just to be back. I’m happy so far. It feels better. It’s nice to be back on the ice." Hiller got off to a rough start with a 3.69 GAA and .872 save percentage in six games.

Patrice Bergeron has been named a finalist for the Selke Trophy, as the NHL's best defensive forward.

He has won the award three times in the last four years, including the last two seasons. Los Angeles' Anze Kopitar and Ryan Kesler of the Anaheim Ducks are the other finalists.

T.J. Oshie came through in a gigantic way for the Washington Capitals on Thursday night, scoring the overtime winner in Game 1 against Pittsburgh, his third goal of the game.

In 36 career playoff games, Oshie's team had never won when he's scored in the post-season. Oshie halted the streak in tremendous fashion in his seventh post-season game for the Capitals, lighting the lamp at three crucial moments during a tense Game 1. The Penguins and Capitals tangle again for Game 2 on Saturday night.

Brooks Orpik (upper body) is expected to be in the lineup for Game 1 against the Penguins.

Orpik was injured in Game 3 of Washington's first round series against the Flyers after he was hit by Ryan White. It appears as though he's good to go ahead of tonight's game against Pittsburgh. Orpik is currently on the ice for warmups and he's skating on a pairing with John Carlson.

Brooks Orpik (upper body) will be a game-time decision on Thursday.

That being said, it sounds like the odds are in favor of Orpik playing. It would be his first contest since April 18.

Braden Holtby is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.

Holtby tied the NHL's season-single wins record with 48 and he also posted a 2.20 GAA and .922 save percentage in 66 starts. There's a good chance he'll end up with the award after a season like that. "He's been as consistent as any goaltender in the Nationals Hockey League this year," coach Barry Trotz said. "He's gotten a lot of attention for that not only from the records side. But you don't put a record together like that if you have areas where you haven't been that good for long periods of time, so he's been pretty solid all year." Holtby will be competing with Jonathan Quick and Ben Bishop.

Zach Parise had been playing with a herniated disk in his lower back for three months before a hit on April 5 took him out of the lineup.

"I don't know if you've ever had nerve pain, but it doesn't feel very good," said Parise. "It's been really scary, some of the things that I was feeling. There was a lot of pain and just some of the things that were happening, it was a little eye-opening." He is hoping to avoid off-season back surgery with therapy and rehab. Parise believes he has made positive progress with that path so far and feels like he'll be training normally by midsummer. He still wants to play for the United States in the World Cup of Hockey in September.

Andrew Ladd can become an unrestricted free agent in July, but he appears to be open to giving the Blackhawks a discount on his services.

"I'm at the point in my career where I can make decisions based on being in a good situation and at the end of the day, I don't think it's all about money for me," Ladd, said. "It's about being in a good place for my family and being on a team that's going to contend every year. You'd be crazy not to want to be a part of this group, this organization and we'll see what happens." He made $4.5 million this past season and he could demand much more than that on the open market.

Pekka Rinne made 36 saves to lead Nashville to a 2-1 Game 7 win over Anaheim on Tuesday.

It was his best playoff performance as a pro to date. Rinne made 27 saves in the second and third periods alone to "steal" the game for Nashville. The only puck to get past him was a Ryan Kesler one-timer on a power-play. The 33-year-old stopped 60-of-62 shots in Games 6 and 7. He carries a 2.45 GAA and .915 save percentage into the second round.

Forward Shane Prince scored two first-period goals Wednesday night to help the visiting New York Islanders upset the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 in the first game of the teams' second-round playoff series.

Prince's goals were his second and third of the postseason. After Travis Hamonic scored his first playoff goal to tie the game 1-1 at 5:44 of the first period, Prince found the net at 17:28 and 19:57, giving the Isles a 3-1 lead going into the second period. Ryan Strome and Brock Nelson drew assists on both Prince goals. The Isles went ahead 4-1 in the second period on the sixth goal of the postseason for superstar John Tavares. Cal Clutterbuck netted the Isles' fifth goal in the final minute of the third period. It was his first goal of the playoffs. Game 2 of this series will be played in Tampa Saturday afternoon.

Brayden Schenn has been suspended for three games for charging Washington's T.J. Oshie.

The incident occurred in Game 6 last Sunday. Oshie was able to return to the game and Schenn wasn't penalized on the hit. Schenn will start serving his suspension when the 2016-17 regular season begins. Check out the video in the link for the League's explanation.

Steven Stamkos (vascular surgery) took part in Tuesday's practice in a no-contact role.

He skated on the fourth line with Mike Blunden and Brian Boyle during some rushes and took some half one timers, but he didn't participate in power play drills. There's been no timetable placed on his return, but he was expected to miss 1-3 months. It's unclear how long he has to stay on blood thinners following vascular surgery to repair a blood clot in his right collarbone area.
