Jonas Hiller is likely to return to the Ducks' lineup this week, however the stellar play of Viktor Fasth could alter that timetable.

Hiller dressed as backup to Fasth for Saturday's shootout win over Nashville, but coach Bruce Boudreau would be foolish to re-insert him while the Swedish netminder is in the midst of an 8-0-0 streak to begin his career. "He'll start sooner than later, I think," Boudreau said. "He'll get in next week for sure. I think that is important to build him back up." Look for Fasth to be between the pipes against the Blue Jackets on Monday.

Brock Nelson will play on the Islanders' top line Saturday.

Nelson has six goals and 12 points in 10 games this season and he's done that without playing much with the Islanders' top two forwards. If he ends up playing regularly with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, then he's far less likely to simply fade away as the season progresses.
Oct 31 - 5:44 PM

Trevor Lewis (upper body) has been activated off of the injured reserve list.

Lewis will make his return on Friday. This move was anticipated after it was revealed earlier this afternoon that the Kings were sending David Van der Gulik back to the minors.

Sabres GM Tim Murray felt that Sam Reinhart wasn't strong enough to play in the NHL yet.

That's part of the reason why Reinhart was return to WHL Kootenay after his nine-game trial with Buffalo was completed. Reinhart had just one assist and was averaging only 10:21 minutes of ice time per game, so we can't fault Buffalo for wanting to send him to a place where he'll log big minutes. "I don't see the value of the argument of you can sit on the bench here and work out versus going back to junior, no matter what he's accomplished in junior," Murray said. "Great players have gone back to junior. Ninety-nine percent of the players that play here have gone back to junior. He's still going to get something out of it. He's going to get the World Junior. Hopefully his team's a playoff team. Every playoff game you play at every level is experience that you can't take away from him." What's left unsaid is the near certainty that Reinhart wouldn't get to be in any playoff games if he stuck with Buffalo this season.
Oct 31 - 5:05 PM

Steve Mason will play between the pipes on Saturday.

Mason warmed the bench for four straight games following his disastrous start to the season. This is obviously an opportunity for him to bounce back, but if he doesn't capitalize on it than it will further weaken his position against Ray Emery in the battle for the starting job.
Oct 31 - 2:09 PM

Vincent Lecavalier (foot) will rejoin the Flyers on Saturday.

Look for Lecavalier to play alongside R.J. Umberger and Wayne Simmonds. Lecavalier was out for seven consecutive contests.
Oct 31 - 2:07 PM

Nick Foligno (upper body) is expected to return Friday.

Foligno suffered a scary collision on Sunday when he went head first into a linesman after being pushed into the boards by Jeff Carter. He missed Tuesday's game as a result.
Oct 31 - 12:21 PM

Alexander Semin will probably be a healthy scratch on Saturday.

This comes after Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said that Semin isn't "playing with the pace the league is at." This might spark Semin, but his inconsistent play over the years makes him hard to bet on. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are paying him $7 million annually through 2017-18.
Oct 31 - 12:16 PM

Sam Reinhart has been returned to the Kootenay Ice of the WHL.

The Sabres made the right decision here. Reinhart was averaging a mere 10:21 of ice time per game in Buffalo and he had one assist in nine contests. He'll be a star player in the WHL, where he amassed 36 goals and 105 points in 60 games last season. He'll also get a chance to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships.
Oct 31 - 12:06 PM

Mikael Backlund has been sidelined due to an abdomen injury.

Backlund went into training camp with this ailment and had been playing through it. He's being regarded as week-to-week now, so obviously we don't expect him to return in the near future. He has a goal and four points in 11 games in 2014-15.

Aleksander Barkov suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday's win against Arizona.

He was injured in the third period and is listed as day-to-day. Barkov has endured a sluggish start to the season, with only one goal and no assists in eight matches.
Oct 31 - 10:19 AM

Roberto Luongo has allowed just four even-strength goals this season.

That represents a league low among goalies who has played as many as seven games. However, it's been a different story for him when the opposition has a power play. He's allowed 11 power-play goals this campaign, which ties New Jersey's Cory Schneider for the most in the league. The Panthers need to sort out their 28th ranked penalty kill.
