Vladimir Tarasenko left Wednesday's game and did not return after a Mark Olver hit in the St. Louis Blues' eventual 1-0 OT loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

It's too early to know how severe the injury was, but onlookers described him as "glassy eyed" after the check. He had a concussion in the KHL early this season, too, so this is a troubling situation. Stay tuned.

With his 29-save performance on Thursday, Jonathan Quick is now the Kings' all-time leader in shutouts.

Quick earned the 33rd shutout of his career, putting him ahead of Rogie Vachon. Given that Quick is still just 28-years-old and signed through 2022-23, it seems fair to say that Quick will put quite a bit of distance between himself and Vachon before his tenure with the Kings is over.

Henrik Zetterberg recorded a goal and two assists in Detroit's 4-3 comeback win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

He had a goal and a helper in the third period to force overtime and then he picked up another assist on Justin Abdelkader's game winner. Zetterberg has scored a goal in three straight games and he'll take a four-game point streak into Saturday's match at Philadelphia.

Zdeno Chara reportedly suffered ligament damage in his knee and will be sidelined for the next four-to-six weeks.

Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston and TSN's Aaron Ward tweeted the story that Chara could be facing surgery after he nailed Islanders center John Tavares with an open-ice hit and left Thursday's game shortly afterward. Chara could end up missing more time if he does require a surgical procedure to repair the damage. The Bruins should provide a timetable after the big defender is re-evaluated.

Mark Letestu scored two goals, including the game-winner, as Columbus defeated San Jose 5-4 on Thursday night.

Letestu scored the winning goal with just 21 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Jackets the win. This was a crazy game that saw four lead-changes. Ryan Johansen also scored two goals in the contest, while winger Scott Hartnell registered four assists. The goals were Letestu’s first two of the season.

Jonathan Quick turned aside all 29 shots he faced in Los Angeles' 2-0 win over Buffalo on Thursday.

Quick is on fire right now. He’s given up one goal or less in four consecutive starts (including two shutouts). The Kings grabbed the lead less than one minute into the game, but Quick allowed the Kings to keep the lead on several occasions. There aren’t even a handful of goaltenders better than Jonathan Quick right now. He just may be the best goaltender in the NHL, and with the Kings playing well in front of him, he will continue to be a fantasy monster going forward.

Jeff Carter scored a goal and added an assist in Los Angeles’ 2-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

On paper it looked like this game might be a blowout, but the Sabres kept it close. Carter opened the scoring on the power play just 36 seconds into the game. Carter now has four goals and four assists in seven games this season. The 29-year-old picked up his assist on Anze Kopitar’s goal in the third period. Carter has been off the charts so far this season, and there’s no reason to think he can’t continue to produce solid offensive numbers.

Darcy Kuemper stopped all 26 shots he faced on Thursday night en route to his third shutout of the young season in a 2-0 win over Arizona.

Kuemper is having a special start to the year and is posting absolutely breathtaking numbers. Initially thought to be a three-man race heading into the season, Kuemper has taken the starting goaltending job in Minnesota and is running away with it. Through four starts, he is 3-1 with a .980 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average.

James Neal lit the lamp three times for a natural hat trick on Thursday night as the Predators edged out the Blackhawks 3-2.

Neal scored a goal in each period and now has five goals in his past four games, the only points he has through seven games this season. Acquired during the off-season in a trade from Pittsburgh, Neal is living up to the offensive hopes he brought to Nashville. Rookie Filip Forsberg notched assists on two of Neal's goals against Hawks goaltender Antti Raanta.

Jake Allen was beaten three times in Thursday's 4-1 loss to Vancouver, the fourth was an empty netter.

Chris Higgins cleaned up the garbage for the first goal after Alex Pietrangelo was picked off at the red line in the first, and Linden Vey was poorly covered in the slot during a Canucks' powerplay to make it 3-1 in the third. But Nick Bonino's breakaway goal went in short side after he looked Allen off. It wasn't the young netminder's finest game, but he could've been helped more by his veteran defense, too. He stopped just 19-22.

Sean Monahan scored two goals in Calgary’s 5-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.

The goals are Monahan’s first two of the season. The 20-year-old has struggled to produce offensively so far this season. Monahan had only two assists in his first eight games of the year. It’s way too early to tell if Monahan is going through a sophomore slump, or if it’s just a slow start to the season. Curtis Glencross, Matt Stajan and Lance Bouma also scored goals for the Flames.

Ryan Miller was tested well on Thursday night in St. Louis, stopping 31-32 shots against in the 4-1 victory over his former teammates.

After getting yanked in the first period on Tuesday night, Miller was out to prove the doubters wrong on every side of the proverbial fence - and he did. At least for this night. Only Kevin Shattenkirk's twisted wrister on the powerplay to tie the game at one in the second period beat Miller.
