Corey Perry (knee) is hoping to start skating on the weekend according to coach Bruce Boudreau.

Don't expect to see Perry back before Christmas and just how long after Christmas is still up in the air but he is getting close. The stud winger has had a tough go of it lately with the knee injury on December 5 and picking up the mumps earlier. Nevertheless, Perry has 14 goals and 22 points in 23 games and remains a top-five fantasy player when healthy.

Petr Mrazek was called in on relief to make 23 saves in the Red Wings 2-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Friday.

Jimmy Howard was pulled in the first period due to a lower body injury so Mrazek had to step in. "I thought Mrazek was fantastic coming off the bench," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. Babcock failed to give any update on Jimmy Howard however so we don't know what the immediate future holds for the 22 year-old. Detroit seems to be downplaying the severity of Howard’s issue, yet it’s troublesome enough that the team sent Xavier Ouellet down to the minors in exchange for Tom McCollum in case. Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves on 31 shots in the Ducks' 6-2 blowout loss to Ottawa on Friday.

Brzgalov was making his first start in relief of Federik Andersen for the Ducks since signing as a free agent back on December 9. The Ducks were playing the second half of a back-to-back scenario and finishing up a five game Eastern road trip so you have to think the entire team played into this loss. Still, he may not get a lot of starts with results like these.

Ryan Getzlaf scored twice in the Ducks 6-2 loss to Ottawa on Friday.

The Ducks captain continued his torrid points streak with his 11th and 12th on the year. Getzlaf now has points in five straight games and ten of his last 11. He ranks fourth in the NHL in points with 37 and doesn't need superstar winger Corey Perry to get his points it seems. He is again one of the most valuable players in NHL fantasy hockey.

Kyle Turris scored a highlight reel shorthanded goal and added an assist in the Senators 6-2 win over Anaheim on Friday.

Turris made a sweet move to beat two Duck defenders to score his seventh of the year in the Sens blowout win. Mike Hoffman also added two goals for Ottawa who scored the first four goals of this game to make it a blowout. Turris was one of five Senator players to collect two points on the night. Bobby Ryan had two assists against his old team and Mika Zibanejad added a goal and a helper as well.

Ondrej Palat (lower body) will play against New Jersey on Friday.

Palat missed four straight games due to the ailment. Tyler Johnson is questionable with a stomach virus though, so Palat's return might not correspond with a healthy player being moved off of one of Tampa Bay's top two lines. Palat has nine goals and 20 points in 30 games in 2014-15.

Steve Mason won't play on Saturday or Sunday due to an upper-body injury.

The ailment is likely related to Mason's back. Flyers GM Ron Hextall said that the Flyers will provide an additional update on Monday. It seems reasonable to believe that Ray Emery will start in at least one, if not both, of Philadelphia's weekend games, but that's just speculation at this point.

Mirco Mueller has been loaned to Team Switzerland for the World Juniors.

Mueller has spent six of San Jose's last nine games in the press box. This will give him a chance to get plenty of minutes against the world's top talent in his age bracket.

Derick Brassard (mumps) is projected to play on Saturday.

Brassard will take part in the Saturday morning skate before a final determination is made though. If Brassard is available, he will be on a line with Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello, which means J.T. Miller will be playing a reduced role.

Max Pacioretty (upper body) is day-to-day, according to Canadiens coach Michel Therrien.

Pacioretty was hospitalized after he was knocked into the boards by Anaheim's Clayton Stoner. Obviously with him being listed as day-to-day, there's still the chance that he'll be back in the near future, but it's hard to say unless more details are revealed. While he's sidelined, Michael Bournival is projected to take his spot on a line with Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher.

Cameron Talbot has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $1.45 million extension for the 2015-16 campaign.

The Rangers are nearly tripling Talbot's current salary of $575,000 to prevent him from walking as an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's emerged as a great backup goaltender with a 2.34 GAA and .921 save percentage in seven games in 2013-14. He also posted a 1.64 GAA and .941 save percentage in 21 contests last season.
