Matt Carkner (lower body) joined the Islanders during Tuesday's practice.

Carkner hasn't played since Feb. 5. He recently took time off following resuming skating so it's a good sign that he was back at practice Tuesday. There's still no definitive timeline for his return.

After Rick Nash scored a mere three goals in the recent post-season, there's been plenty of speculation that the New York Rangers would try to trade the highly paid, high-profile right winger.

Larry Brooks, however, insists in a New York Post column that such a trade will not be happening. "Nash has a no-move clause in his contract in force through the end of this season that management has no intention of asking him to waive and No. 61 has no intention of volunteering to forfeit," Brooks writes. "The Rangers are not asking Nash to leave town after two seasons on Broadway in which he led the team in goal-scoring both times, and No. 61 is not asking for an exit from New York after recording a sum of four goals in 37 playoff games. The concept is not on the table for either party."

Forward Sam Reinhart, the second selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Details of the deal have yet to be divulged publicly. "We are very excited to have Sam under contract," Sabres general manager Tim Murray said. "We look forward to watching him develop and become an important part of our organization in the future." Reinhart, 18, spent the past four seasons with the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League. In 203 WHL games, he scored 101 goals and 254 points. He served as captain in 2013-14 and was named WHL Player of the Year and Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year after tying Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl, the No. 3 pick, for fourth in league scoring with 105 points. Reinhart, the son of former NHL player Paul Reinhart, was captain for Canada when it won the gold medal at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament and at the 2013 IIHF Under-18 World Championship.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have inked Brenden Morrow to a one-year deal.

Morrow gives the Lightning another veteran leader and a bit more grit, but he's no longer a noteworthy fantasy option in standard leagues. He had 25 points and 76 penalty minutes in 71 games with the St. Louis Blues last season.

Brandon Dubinsky has inked a six-year, $35.1 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Dubinsky had one season left on his four-year, $16.8 million deal before he would have been eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. His new contract comes with a no-movement clause. Dubinsky will continue to provide the Blue Jackets with a blend of physical play and skill. He had 18 goals, 50 points, and 98 penalty minutes in 76 games last season.

Daniel Cleary has agreed to a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

Cleary will earn $1.5 million in base salary, but he can make an extra $1 million in bonuses. He had four goals and eight points in 52 games in 2013-14.

Vladimir Sobotka has reportedly signed a three-year contract with the KHL's Omsk.

Sobotka is set to earn $4 million annually and has the flexibility of returning to the NHL after any season. Sobotka was a restricted free agent and the St. Louis Blues filed for arbitration. However, Blues GM Doug Armstrong also said that he offered Sobotka contracts ranging from one to five years, including a three-year deal that would pay him more than $3 million annually.

Steve Ott has agreed to a two-year, $5.2 million contract extension with the St. Louis Blues.

The Blues acquired Ott from the Buffalo Sabres as part of the Ryan Miller trade. He's known primarily for his gritty play, but he does chip in offensively. He had 23 points and 92 penalty minutes in 82 games in 2013-14.

Dany Heatley has agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks.

The chances of Heatley bouncing back to the point where he's a serviceable top-six forward aren't great, but we can't fault the Ducks for taking a chance on him at that price. Heatley had 12 goals and 28 points in 76 contests in 2013-14.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have confirmed that Sidney Crosby suffered a wrist injury during the 2013-14 campaign.

Based on previous reports, it sounds like that injury hindered Crosby's play in the postseason. Earlier reports also suggested that Crosby will have surgery, but the Penguins said that might not end up happening. "We expect to have a decision by early next week," Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said. It's believed that Crosby won't miss any playing time due to this injury even if he does have surgery.

Cory Schneider has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the New Jersey Devils.

New Jersey won't provide any further details regarding the contract, but it's reportedly a seven-year, $42 million contract. If that's true then it seems like a fair amount for Schneider. He's never had the opportunity to serve as a team's clear cut starter, but he's been a great goaltender for years and that should continue in his expanded role.
Jul 9 - 4:11 PM

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed Patrick Kane to an eight-year, $84 million contract extension.

Jonathan Toews signed an identical contract. Kane and Toews new cap hits of $10.5 million annually don't take effect until the 2015-16 campaign, but currently they're projected to be the two highest in the league. Kane has emerged as a point-per-game player and a clutch performer in the playoffs, although his recent injury history makes him a bit of a risk going forward.
