Capitals netminder Braden Holtby stopped 30 of 31 shots in a 6-1 victory over Winnipeg Friday night.

If only Holtby could play the Jets every night, as he has beaten them in three of his four matchups, including a pair of shutouts. Most recently, he turned away 50 of 51 shots over a two-game stretch, both victories.

The Ottawa Senators have dealt Derick Brassard to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2018 first-round pick, Filip Gustavsson, and Ian Cole.

The Penguins are giving up a lot to get Brassard, but he's also a great third-line center for them. Brassard has 18 goals and 38 points in 58 contests. The Penguins like to run three capable scoring lines, often breaking up Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Phil Kessel to accomplish that. Having a player like Brassard on that third line will help them to achieve that. This obviously doesn't guarantee them a third consecutive championship - no trade comes with that kind of assurances - but it does make the Penguins look all the more threatening going into the playoffs.

Patric Hornqvist (lower body) termed himself as a game-time decision on Friday.

Hornqvist also said he was "ready to go" though, so odds are he'll be making his return. He's missed the Penguins' last eight contests.

Josh Bailey has agreed to a six-year, $30 million contract extension with the New York Islanders.

The Islanders didn't release the financial terms of the deal, but TSN's Bob McKenzie revealed them. Bailey has 15 goals and 62 points in 58 games this season so if he continues to play anything like that over the years to come then this will be a terrific signing for the Islanders. Even if he regresses a bit though, which seems likely, this will still be a decent price. The X-Factor of course is what this will mean for John Tavares. Bailey has been playing on a line with Tavares this season and we imagine the Islanders hope that re-signing Bailey will make Tavares more inclined to stick around too. If this deal helps them in their efforts to re-sign Tavares then that alone will make this worth it.

Pekka Rinne stopped 33 of 34 shots in Thursday's 7-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.

The Predators had a slim 2-1 advantage late in the second period, but they managed to score five consecutive goals over the final 24:03 of the game. The victory was the 300th of Rinne's career. He's now just the third Finnish goaltender ever to reach that mark (Miikka Kipprusoff and Kari Lehtonen are the other two). The 35-year-old has four wins his last five games. He'll head into his next start with a 31-9-4 record with a 2.32 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage.
Feb 23 - 12:39 AM

Ryan Johansen scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's 7-1 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Johansen helped set up Kevin Fiala's second-period goal that gave the Predators a 3-1 lead at the time. He then added a tally of his own at the 6:30 mark of the third frame to extend Nashville's lead to 5-1. Johansen finished the game with an even rating, one shot on goal and one hit in 17:22 of ice time. The 25-year-old has now accumulated five points in his last five games. He's up to eight goals and 39 points in 57 games. The Predators have had a great season, but Johansen's production has been a little disappointing in 2017-18. Nick Bonino, Scott Hartnell, Viktor Arvidsson, Mattias Ekholm and Calle Jarnkrok also scored for Nashville in the win.
Feb 23 - 12:30 AM

Vincent Trocheck scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

Trocheck finished the game with two penalty minutes, four shots on goal and two hits in 23:43 of ice time. The 24-year-old now has 23 goals and 54 points in 58 games this season. He's accumulated six points in his last six games. Maxim Mamin also scored for the Panthers on Thursday.

Ristolainen opened the scoring at the 3:39 mark of the first period, when he beat a screened Jimmy Howard with a wrist shot from the point. He also helped set up Evander Kane's power-play tally in the second frame to give the Sabres 2-1 lead at the time.
