The Tampa Bay Lightning have fired head coach Guy Boucher.

The Lightning are currently in 14th place in the Eastern Conference and 27th overall in the NHL so it is no surprise that Boucher finally got the boot, especially with rumors flying around the last few weeks. "Guy has poured his heart and soul into the Lightning organization for these past three years and we appreciate all the work he has done," GM Steve Yzerman said. "But ultimately I am not satisfied with the direction we are heading and I believe making a change today is in the best interest of our franchise." The Lightning play Winnipeg tonight and Martin Raymond and Dan Lacroix will share the coaching duties behind the bench.

Andrei Vasilevskiy did his best to singlehandedly backstop the Lightning to at least a point, but his 45 saves weren’t enough in the 3-1 loss to the Islanders on Saturday night.

The Lightning were lucky this was even a game in the third period as the Islanders thoroughly dominated them, finishing with 47 shots, compared to 21 for the Lightning. Vasilevskiy was perfect until 16:51 of the third period, and he ended up giving two goals in 12 seconds. It appears that Ben Bishop is close to returning to the lineup, but Vasilevskiy has certainly made a case to be used as a backup if Evgeni Nabokov continues to struggle. He has a 1.51 goals-against average and .958 save percentage in two games this season.

Alex Tanguay recorded three points to lead the Avalanche to a 5-1 win over the Sabres on Saturday night.

Tanguay scored twice -- once via the empty net -- and assisted once. While much of the Avalanche are performing under expectations, the 35-year-old has turned back the clock with a great start to the season. Tanguay has 11 goals and 22 points in 30 games this season. Erik Johnson and John Mitchell each notched a goal and an assist, while Cody McLeod picked up the other goal. Jarome Iginla tallied three helpers in the win.

John Tavares left late in Saturday’s game after taking a puck to the ear.

Tavares scored the game-tying goal at 16:51 of the final frame, then headed to the dressing room minutes later after a shot hit his ear. The Islanders’ captain has 13 goals and 28 points in 33 games.

Anze Kopitar is a big reason why the Los Angeles Kings beat the Arizona Coyotes 4-2 on Saturday, as he collected three assists.

Kopitar now has eight points in his last two games and nine in three. The OC Register's Rich Hammond points out that he's generated eight assists in as many periods. Overall, Kopitar has seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 31 games.

The bad news is that James Neal is sick, but the good news is that the Nashville Predators claim that he isn't dealing with the mumps.

The team hasn't dealt with too many huge injuries or bouts of illness, so the initial word of Neal's sickness left some worried. Neal has 11 goals, 19 points, 23 PIM, 106 SOG and 35 hits so far this season.

Red-hot prospect Connor McDavid is expected to play for Canada on Sunday at the World Junior Championship.

He's been dealing with a hand injury that sidelined him starting on Nov. 11. The wunderkind will play against Sweden tomorrow. Many expect him to be a superstar, so there might be some cellar-dwelling NHL teams that may prefer for him to wait a little longer to return.
Dec 20 - 1:01 PM

Andre Burakovsky will spend two games with the Hershey Bears before returning to the Capitals.

Coach Barry Trotz wants to get Burakovsky some playing time after he had been a healthy scratch in five of the last six games. Burakovsky will get top six minutes with the Bears. He is not going to play for Sweden in the World Juniors as Trotz said he is the team's 13th forward and they may need him. "One of the reasons we’re not sending him to the World Junior is he’s right now, we sort of have him as our 13th forward," Trotz said. "But at the same time, we’ve got some people that are hurt, there’s mumps going around, there’s a lot of reasons where you don’t want to commit to having him go, then you need him down the road, not be able to get him. It wouldn’t be fair to another kid who could get named to the team, then we have to pull him back from there. Once he goes there, you can’t [retrieve] him until [Jan.] 6, I believe. That was one of our concerns. We’ve got a lot of games in the next two weeks."

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Derrick Pouliot from the minors.

Pouliot is probably the Penguins best prospect in the AHL and the defenseman has seven goals and 20 points in 23 games thus far. With Christian Ehrhoff questionable and Olli Maatta and Robert Bortuzzo out of action, the Penguins are in need of blueline help. He is worth picking up in keeper pools and should see some ice time on the second power play.
Dec 20 - 10:00 AM

Jimmy Howard will not play Sunday against Colorado.

He sustained a lower-body injury that the Red Wings don't believe is serious in Friday's loss to New Jersey. Consider Howard day-to-day, although there is a good chance he will sit until after the Christmas break.
Dec 20 - 9:35 AM

Ryan Johansen has a goal and three assists in his last 10 games.

When you throw in a minus-eight rating, it's hard to believe that the Blue Jackets are 7-2-1 in that span. Johansen has nine goals and 28 points in 31 games with a minus-12 rating but his lack of training camp time due to contract negotiations, may finally be hitting him.
Dec 20 - 7:37 AM

Corey Perry (knee) is hoping to start skating on the weekend according to coach Bruce Boudreau.

Don't expect to see Perry back before Christmas and just how long after Christmas is still up in the air but he is getting close. The stud winger has had a tough go of it lately with the knee injury on December 5 and picking up the mumps earlier. Nevertheless, Perry has 14 goals and 22 points in 23 games and remains a top-five fantasy player when healthy.
