Evgeni Malkin has been activated by Pittsburgh and he's expected to return to the lineup Thursday night.

Fantasy owners should follow suit and activate him as soon as possible. Malkin hasn't played since March 9. He's slated to center James Neal and Brenden Morrow against Winnipeg.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is expected to be sidelined for the next five-to-six weeks.

The Oilers have termed Nugent-Hopkins' issue as simply being upper-body, but he's reportedly dealing with a bruised sternum and cracked ribs. This is a particularly unfortunate development given that Nugent-Hopkins had been one of the few positives in Edmonton's season thus far. He has 16 goals and 31 points in 46 contests this season.

Morgan Rielly is dealing with an upper-body injury.

Rielly missed Friday's practice as a result. He's questionable for Saturday's game.

The NHL assessed Evgeni Malkin a $5,000 fine for spearing Dustin Brown.

The incident occurred during Thursday's game. Malkin wasn't punished during the game itself for his actions.
Jan 19 - 4:03 PM

Dustin Brown will not be suspended for boarding Justin Schultz.

Brown did receive a $10,000 fine over the incident though. He's being punished for smashing Schultz into the boards while Schultz was already on his knees. Brown already received a five-minute major and game misconduct due to the incident.
Jan 19 - 4:01 PM

Keith Kinkaid will make his third straight start on Saturday.

Cory Schneider has been under the weather lately and that appears to be why the Devils are leaning on Kinkaid. Kinkaid stopped just 16 of 19 shots on Thursday, but the Devils did earn a 4-3 overtime win against Washington.
Jan 19 - 1:30 PM

Steve Mason is out with a concussion.

Mason has missed the Jets' last two games, but the reason was originally reported to be an illness. Obviously being diagnosed with a concussion is always bad news, but it's particularly troubling in this case because Mason also missed a couple weeks in late November and early December after being concussed. He did have a bit of a concussion history prior to this season as he suffered what was believed to one in 2011 and was concussed in 2014.
Jan 19 - 1:28 PM

Logan Shaw will make his Canadiens' debut on Friday.

Shaw was claimed off waivers from Anaheim on Monday, but he was a healthy scratch on Wednesday. Look for him to play on the fourth line in his Habs debut. He had two goals and eight points in 42 contests with Anaheim this season.
Jan 19 - 1:23 PM

Antti Niemi will play between the pipes for Montreal Friday night.

Niemi's getting a tough assignment as the Canadiens will be up against Washington. He has a 0-5-1 record, 4.85 GAA, and .865 save percentage in nine contests this season.
Jan 19 - 1:10 PM

Kevin Shattenkirk will undergo surgery for a meniscus tear in his knee.

Shattenkirk is out indefinitely as a result. He was apparently hurt in September and has been trying to play through the injury up until now. He's still hoping to return "down the stretch," but it's not yet clear if he has any realistic chance of being able to do so. He has five goals and 23 points in 46 games while averaging 20:16 minutes this season, but he's also struggled lately with an assist and minus-nine rating over his last 13 contests. His absence will be a big blow to the Rangers, but it sounds like he should come back in better condition than he has been this season.
Jan 19 - 12:14 PM

Patric Hornqvist scored twice in a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.

Hornqvist posted his first two-goal game since Feb. 9, 2017. Not to be completely outdone, Evgeni Malkin also scored for the Penguins. Hornqvist now has 15 goals and 29 points in 44 games this season.
Jan 19 - 12:53 AM

Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals and added an assist in a 5-3 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

MacKinnon now has goals in four straight games and in five of his last six games. The center also has 17 points in his last eight games for the Avalanche. Carl Soderberg, Mikko Rantanen, and Matt Nieto also scored in the victory. MacKinnon now has 22 goals and 57 points in 44 games this season.
