While a source within the New York Islanders shot down Frans Nielsen being on the block, the same might not be true about Mark Streit.

The offensive defenseman needs a new contract, and with Lubomir Visnovsky re-signed, Streit might be the odd man out. The rumor has it that the Chicago Blackhawks are eye-balling Streit, with Jeremy Morin and Dylan Olsen possibly going to Long Island. As always, take these rumblings with a grain of salt.

The Vancouver Canucks have been fined $50,000 for violating NHL By-Law 15.

"Canucks General Manager Jim Benning violated the provisions of NHL By-Law 15 relating to inappropriate public comments by speaking generally to his Club's potential interest in players under contract to other NHL Clubs," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. Benning has apologized and accepted the consequences of his comments, but explained that he was just trying to be honest with fans and the media about his interest in Steven Stamkos and P.K. Subban.

Brad Stuart has been placed on waivers and the Avalanche intend to buy him out.

The Avalanche will save $1.2 million in cash, according to generalfanager.com, but his buyout won't provide salary cap relief because he is 36 years of age. That will leave the team with a $3.6 million charge. Colorado wants to get younger on the back end, while giving more opportunities to Nikita Zadorov, Chris Bigras, Eric Gelinas and prospect Duncan Siemens.

Andrew Shaw has reached an agreement on a six-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens.

Reports suggest the 24-year-old forward will be paid an average of $3.9-million a season. He could have become a restricted free agent Friday. "As I mentioned last Friday following Andrew's acquisition (in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks), we are adding a solid character player to our team, a reliable player who plays with grit and a two-time Stanley Cup champion. . .over the past five seasons," Montreal general manager Marc Bergevin said. "Andrew will add more leadership to our team. I had the opportunity to discuss with him over the past few days, and I sense his determination and excitement in joining the Canadiens' organization for many years to come."

Justin Schultz did not get a qualifying offer from Pittsburgh.

He can test unrestricted free agency now, but still could sign with the Penguins for less than the $3.9 million he earned last year. Schultz skated in 18 regular-season games and 15 playoff matches with Pittsburgh in 2015-16 after he was acquired from Edmonton.

Filip Forsberg has agreed to a six-year, $36 million contract with Nashville.

"Filip is among the most skilled, dynamic talents we've ever had in the organization and is an integral part of our success for the next six years and beyond," GM David Poile said in a statement. "While we have already seen his creativity, hockey sense and puck skills, he has yet to reach the peak of his abilities. We have full confidence that he will continue to blossom into one of the top players in the world." Forsberg is a big part of Nashville's offense. The 21-year-old led the Predators in scoring during the 2015-16 season with 33 goals and 64 points in 82 games. He also generated 23 points on the power play and he amassed 247 shots on goal.

Dallas GM Jim Nill intends to sign Jamie Benn to an extension after July 1.

"Jamie's not going anywhere," he said. "We'll get something done." Benn has one more season left on a five-year, $26.25 million deal and he will get a significant pay bump. The Stars captain has topped 85 points in each of his last two seasons and he tallied 41 goals in 2015-16.

Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to start the 2016-17 season with Pittsburgh, according to Sportsnet's John Shannon.

He received the news from Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford. Fleury's name has come up in plenty of trade rumors, but it doesn't look like anything is imminent on that front.

Expect a lot of interest in unrestricted free agent Kyle Okposo.

The veteran can listen to offers from NHL teams on Saturday and we know of at least five squads that are allegedly rather keen on signing the winger to a new deal. Detroit, St. Louis, Winnipeg, L.A. and Minnesota are said to be in on Okposo. Stay tuned.

The Florida Panthers have traded Dmitry Kulikov to the Buffalo Sabres for Mark Pysyk.

The Sabres also acquired a second-round pick (No. 33) in the deal, while the Panthers received picks No. 38 and No. 89. Kulikov became an extra piece when the Panthers inked Keith Yandle to a contract. Kulikov becomes a top-four defenseman for the Sabres and should take his offensive game to the next level in Buffalo. Look for a 30 point campaign from the defenseman.
